recently i've added 3 danios, so i have 7 danios.
but then the problems came, the next day i saw one of the danios out of water and already died. T_T
then the next day again... so now i covered the tank...

can danios jump? or is it because of night predator? i suspect the event happens at night, cuz none of 'em jump during the day...
or do they jump because they are courting (mating)???

p.s. how do u know when a pair of danios are ready to mate?

thanks, all answers appreciated....

Danios are jumpers, so are lots of other aquarium fishes. As a matter of course you should consider all of your fish as jumpers. You will be right more often than not.
Danios are group spawners,so the way to spawn them is to get the fish in top condition, and also the water should be in very good shape( for an extended period of time). The females will be plump and "ripe" looking, the males will show good color, and look sort of "flashy". The spawn usually occurs in the early morning, and unless special precautions are taken, the eggs will be devoured by lunch time. The way to save danio eggs (which are not adhesive) is to do the spawn in a tank with no gravel on the bottom, instead line the bottom with a triple layer of glass marbles. The eggs will sink through the marbles and the parent fish will not be able to reach them. The fry will look like tiny slivers of glass, and will require the smallest of fry food to get to the size at which they can eat baby brine shrimp(newly hatched only). There's more, but this is enough to get you started.

Yes, definetely! Danios are jumpers. They were probably chasing each other and one jumped out of the tank.

No, I don't think it's night predation. No, they court/mate on the bottom of the tank not on leaves.

If you gave a mate ready, you would see them touching each other.

I don't know about danio breeding but I do know that Danios are big jumpers! I've never been able to keep them without a lid and don't know anyone else who has either. It's not because of a predator though - it's a danio trait.

Danios are notorious jumpers. They WILL jump out of a tank with no hood or glass canopy.

I would say you should find a webpage for that fish or look it up on wikipedia.org
