i dont smoke it. but i got into this big argument with this guy over it and he said it wasnt harmful at all. i dont believe him.

It's not really harmful but, it is considered a 'mind altering' substance=Illegal Drug!

It's legal in the country where I live, by legalizing it we no longer have all the problems that go along with it like in your country. It's a pity your government is fully run by fundamentalism and moral prohibition. You can be charged just like drinking alcohol if you drive stoned you can loose your driving license or if go to work drunk or stoned you can loose your job. We don't have drug problems either for example if you feel like a glass of wine some feel like a joint it's a personal decision. It causes no harm if it's not fully always abused if taken in moderation. The people who wanted it to remain illegal are now eating there words. Seeing less crime in our country. Some states still have laws on the amount you can have for personal use or grow. Persons who smoke it aren't violent or cause the domestic violence and bad social problems alcohol does, so your friend did have point of it not being harmful.

It is harmful, and has been proven to be so. It does have some good uses for medicinal purposes, but the main reason it is illegal, is the Government has still not figured a foolproof way to control and tax the product. As soon as they figure this out to their advantage they'll no doubt make it legal.
It all boils down to control and money.

The only reason its illegal is because it would get out of control if it was legalized.(short version) Its not as bad as cigars or cigarettes or drinking but I guess it will always stay like this.
