It is a long way from democracy.
There is no unified government, militias are still present, and despite claims of a working surge, parts of Iraq are still in chaos.
Democracy usually comes with stablility; the Iraqis don't have either right now.
The US is still in Iraq becuase Bush has long term interests there. Apart from oil, the war in Iraq was performed to place permanent bases there after the US recieved disapproval from the Saudi people that there were US bases there.

We're still killing people for peace; then democracy will follow, or so god has told Bush. Hopefully no one else will come to the US with the same "helpful" methods to instill peace and democracy.

Freedom fries, my friend, that's what it will take before they can become a true democracy.
