There were many things I wish I'd had. The hospital does supply a lot. What I recommend is chap stick (for sure) and shampoo and conditioner. A robe and slippers are also recommended. You will likely have visitors, so keep that in mind, you want to look presentable and covered up! Then think of your comfort...a nail file, a pillow is nice, and a book (just in case you do have some down time!). Oh, and don't forget your camera -all your time will likely revolve around your new bundle of joy and capturing every facial expression!

For you: number one, conditioner, they normally supply you with cheap shampoo and it will do, but conditioner is a must, so is a brush. They gave me a cheapie tooth brush and nasty tooth paste, but it was good enough. I would take a robe though and a change of early maternity clothes. A new pack of cheapy undies you won't care about, they give you these fish net type things that the pads they give you barely stick on and you feel like an idiot because you have a backless gown and see through undies. (cotton grandma variety is fine.)
For Baby: A welcome home baby outfit! we forgot one and the hubby had to buy a 10 dollar outfit for him at the gift shop. (also, they only give you washcloths to change him with, take some UNscented baby wipes.)
I took a book and my gameboy, but all I wanted to do was sleep. (especially since the hospital changed over to a "room-in" where I couldn't just send the baby to the nursery.) Make sure to use the time to sleep because you won't get much of it in the coming weeks.
Don't forget the camera!
They do give you freebies to take home so try not to over pack or getting home might be a big ordeal. PS. they won't let you go home if you don't have a carseat!

To tell you the truth I was too busy to even read the magazines my sister inlaw bought me. I was either feeding, changing nappies, eating, sleeping and when I did have time I watched TV. One thing though after my first child was born my sister inlaw bought me some silk nighty and it was nice but then I got so hot in it, it ended up being uncomfortable so my advice to you is have cotton nighty oh and Big Granny Undies they are so comfy...lol Comfort is the main key here, as you will be sleep deprived and trying to figure out what the hell is going on and if you are a first time mother whether or not you will break this little thing. It is a shock to the system just stay calm, especially when the third day blues are upon you....Oh I think I went a little off track there so Cotton Night Gown, a loose dressing gown, Super Granny Undies and some comfy slippers or bed socks as you feet get cold.
Good luck and Congratulations

When I was at hospital i was feeling too bad, so I did not spend much time reading or listening to music or even watching TV. What I would recommend bringing to the hospital is a pad to write and some magazines. Also some humor reading or watching would be fine. That was what helped me most. A pillow is also a great thing to bring because I remember the one they supplied was quite uncomfortable. It is also necessary to bring your slippers with you. And a good dressing gown.

first of all wishing will never do any thing. Thins work only when u realy jump in to it.
now this world is growing very fast as well as the needs of every human. So, under this circumstance if any body ask anyone to wish, then list would never end.
But if u asked what, then I tell u as a commen human being. Not as a doc. or Patient
1) A good Doctor who knows his/her job well
2) Clean surroundings
3) Good people around U to creat a good & pure atmosphere
4) well Ventilated space
and most imp thing
a good and pure hearted working staff and helpers

Actually I brought too much crap and was given so much more crap in the hospital (freebies, blankies, diapers, breastpump, sitz bath etc) that it was like a small Exodus just to go home. I would have taken less. Didn't miss a thing.
Some things I couldn't live without was my own blankie, my cell phone, a camera, and snackies. Toothpaste/brush and comb, but really I didn't care how I looked since I didn't have but 2 visitors (mom and best friend).

Food! You don't get to eat all through labour and then after you're done, especially if you had the baby after the dinner hour, all they give you is a muffin! After 47 hours of labour and delivery in the hospital, I needed more than a freakin' muffin! My mom ended up smuggling me in some KFC in the middle of the night because I was so hungry!
