Yes, because he is the best actual pitcher, rather than a thrower. Anybody can just hurl gas and rely on a high-octane fastball to get them through the game. But since day one, Maddux has been a smart pitcher, utilizing the mental part of the game to his supreme advantage. His career record speaks for itself. His consistency is remarkable. He won 15 games every year for 17 consecutive years. He is just a pitcher where other guys are just fastball dispensers.

Well, Greg Maddox is one of my choice but the other obvious mention of pitchers to join Maddox would be Nolan Ryan and Roger Clemens.

He's one of them. Probably not the best.

Pedro
Clemens*
Randy Johnson
Kevin Brown
David Cone
Ron Guidry
Glavine
Fernando Valenzuela
Smoltz
Nolan Ryan
Steve Carlton
Jack Morris

I dont know. Saying someone is the best is hard to prove. Maddox has been very good for a very long time. Anyone who denies that is a fool. But the best? I'm not so sure.

I think that he is a phenominal pitcher, So many golden gloves I cant keep track!!! But in the last 30 years?? Ehhh, I dont know, although i love the guy, Im not sure that he would round up to be best pitcher in the last 30 years, maybe ONE of the best pitchers, but not the best in the last 30 years, but he is definitley a future hall of famer!!! I have a lot of respect for the guy.

No I think when he was with the Braves he had the widest strike zone in history. He had exceptional control and painted the corners they gave him but I think Nolan Ryan was better. John Smoltz was a better pitcher on the Braves teams.
