I just saw on the BBC news, where in Germany they will pay the Mothers 70% of their paycheck, to stay home an additional 6 months with their new babies .

A country that knows the value of a MOTHER!

Would you like that? Do You think that would EVER happen here?

I think it's great!!! I wish our country valued us mothers like Germany does. If more mothers were home with their kids the world would be a much better place.

It is about time Mothers are recognized which is a total of 20 weeks paid leave. They also get up to 3 years child rearing leave- fulltime or 8 years part time.
Most countries in Europe do acknowledge that mothers are important and are awarded accordingly. Oprah had actually done an episode about the differences in the way mothers are treated overseas vs here. So for example, she had had a mother from Norway who got 1 year's PAID maternity leave.
Hell would probably freeze over first before that happens here, and I don't mean the town named Hell, Michigan. Women are so objectified here, they are treated little more than a commodity, it would be a miracle if that happened here because countries pay higher taxes than we do here and they get the government aupport to do what they do such as healthcare, and programs such as this one

Many countries in Europe have excellent maternity leave. Not only is America's mere 12 week maternity leave shameful, its also a smear on how important motherhood is. Women are penalized for their motherhood when it comes to their careers and vice versa.

Personally I find this reflective of the differences in America and Europe. Americans overwork, 40 hour plus weeks to the point of exhaustion, while European nations take the time to enjoy life. They relax and linger over lunch and dinner, take mid-afternoon siestas and take length vacations over the continent.

That's why I think Americans look up and much of life has passed us by, because we never took the time to smell the flowers.

Probably won't happen here. Too many people think the government should just give them something for absolutely no effort. So all the money gets distributed to organizations and events whose only purpose is to make a couple people feel better....

That sounds awesome. Not trying to sound chauvinistic, but Western women have needed to re-realize the virtues of motherhood for some time now, especially as the Women's Movement (no matter how necessary in some aspect's) has destroyed so much of the traditional female role in society.

It is NOT a dishonorable job. Oftentimes, raising children and taking care of the household matters can be more difficult that the actual breadmaking itself. We desperately need to instill this idea in the heads of more people.

JaWOHL, lady. They have always known this value, of a virtuous mother what to make the nice babies.

Maybe the volk, they will like this, and make the laws, and then so you can have not to work again, but you must to make the nice babies. With this good duty work, you can get Mutterkreuz!

**If something like that happens here, I'd rather have it based upon a model of our own, thanks.

Germany also gives you extra cash per paycheck if you have kids, but will not give you a dime of welfare.

You work, you get help. You don't work, they will let you starve.

That is how it should be in my opinion. (They view students, retired, and disabled as working)

They are doing this because German women are no longer having babies only the Turk immigrants are. This is an incentive for Germans to have more babies.
