Some friends are finally getting broadband cable internet. They have two computers that they want hooked up to it. When they asked the provider about it they were told to get a router to connect the 2 pcs to the same modem. So how do i know what i am looking for when i am looking on ebay for them? Thanks in advance.

All the brands of routers are basically the same. So get any brand you want.

The two things to consider:
1) Do you want a wireless router? Does everything a normal router does, but can also broadcast a wireless signal. Usually runs about $10 more, but is cheaper to get one now (even if you are not yet using it) then to have to buy a whole new router later.

2) Consider the speed of the wireless router you want. (If you do not go with wireless, then ignore this, because all "wired" routers are the same speed)

Since you are looking at used ones on E-bay, you will find three different kinds: 802.11b, 802.11g and (maybe) 802.11n.
The "b" models only run at 11 mbps (Think "bad" for "b")
The "g" models are the current standards, and run at 54 mbps (Thing "good" for "g")
The "n" models are just appearing on the market, and you probably will not find a used one yet. They are the newest model, and run at 450mbps. (Think "newest" for "n"). They will also cost you double the price of a "b" or "g".

if your gonna directly connect them using a ethernet cord then u can buy pretty much any kind of router, linksys is the preferred brand these days as they are the most reliable

if your gonna be using it for a wireless connection, i would still go with a linksys, u wanna check the range that it goes out to and you want to make sure it covers b and g wireless signals as these days, people use both types

You can use DSL routers.

Don't get one with the ADSL modem included.
