Call the Department of Labor and file a complaint. I have to carry bums like that all the time and I'm sick of it. I haven't lost my job yet but I probably will at some time. I believe they fired you b/c you was running a surveillance operation on the job. I done that once to a Superintendant that cussed me. That SOB lost his job and I'm glad. Go get a big fat lawyer and become big and fat like your lawyer from all the money you will get from them PIGS!

You need to find an attorney who specializes in unlawful termination, and file a complaint with your states department of labor - the important questions here are: 1.) do you still have the tape? 2.) what reason did they give you for your termination 3.) Did the woman that was sleeping have any medical conditions 4.) Can you prove any of what you said in this post?
If you have the answers to these questions and the proof of all of this then you would have a wrongful termination suit to discuss with an attorney. Open that can of worms and let the company get investigated! Best of luck and I am so sorry to hear that you were let go right before the holidays. That truly sucks for you!

I can see your point, but I can see theirs too. What you did, even unintentionally, was invade someone's privacy. A lot of people don't put up with people being video taped since a lot of weirdos are out there that do that kind of thing for sexual pleasure,etc.
Although I do agree that the employee you were recording should've gotten fired for not doing work. I don't know if there's much you can do though.

what should you do? Find another job or go wait in the unemployment line. They had a right to fire you. It may be "morally" wrong to terminate you because you are an asset to the company, but they had every legal right to do so.

From a legal standpoint, you could be subjecting the company to liability for your unauthorized recording of another employee. Most companies have very strict rules and regs about how to report misconduct, and about who is allowed to investigate it. You can't just take off on your own and conduct your own investigation.

Seriously, what was the actual reason for you being fired? I suspect there is more to this story. Anyway, at least you get to laugh at the one they kept, cause now she'll really be on the hook withour you to cover for her.

what you did was wrong. you should have communicated your concerns to your boss and let them deal with it. you should do your job it is not your place to do what you did.
all the issues you mentioned about her job performance were just that performance issues what you did was probably illegal. if your employer used the tape they would be open to litigation. if you want to try and get your job back apologize to your ex-employer for what you did and explain your reasoning. discuss your concerns about your job and how this employee effected your job performance. if you don't want to work there then just move on and let them deal with the poor performance of this employee.

Move on and get another job. I assume you recorded audio along with the video, which is illegal without the subject's consent. Since she was asleep, I doubt she gave her consent. You will not win.
They can counter any argument you come up with.

If what you are saying is correct...First of all ...apply for unemployement...Then consult a lawyer and show him that video..You can have a good case for wrongfull firing.
Do you have anything to back up this allegations? such as paperwork. data..other than the video..
When you applied for unemployement you former employer is paying for it..and they can challenge it if they want...However..Check for your State at will employement laws. or just check with the lawyer..
