It depends on how long the've been separated. Also...some people separate because the "marriage" is over...but stay legally married for financial reasons or for medical insurance coverage.
Every case is different...but you always have to consider that, until the ink is dry on the divorce papers, there's ALWAYS a chance of reconciliation. You might get caught in the middle....or get completely left out in the end.

Nope! There's always the chance he'll go back to her & you'd be left high & dry. You would also take all the blame for their split up whether or not you had anything to do with it. Tell him that when he gets his life straightened out , then you MIGHT consider it. Just remember, if he does it to one, hell do it to you too.
