I'm an only child and I also speak aloud to myself when I'm alone in the house...

I hold full "Conversaions" where I simply debate with myself so that I am sure that I am making the right decision or because I think that something is funny or that I am doing something that I know I shouldn't do or something that I SHOULD do...

I KNOW that it is only "Me" that I'm talking to so it isn't like I think that there is another person responding... It is just an internal conversaion that I feel OK saying aloud.

I laugh more when I'm by myself too...

Like, if I'm watching something with my father then I'll laugh but I'll tone it down or laugh into a pillow but if I'm alone I'll let it all out and be almost rolling on the floor if I REALLY feel something is funny.

I have noticed that I LIKE to be alone more then my friends with Siblings.

I run a business out of my home office and sometimes I will get so busy that I won't leave my house for 2 or 3 days and I have no problem with this... I am on the phone 50% of my day and when I finally get to enjoy my "Me Time" I feel like I just want to shut my phone off and be alone.

I feel just fine reading a good book instead of going out to a bar... If I WANTED to go out I would but I like being alone.

After seeing my friends with lots of siblings I am GLAD I'm an only child...

Every time it has ended up being the eldest being the one to succeed the middle one just being kind of a waste, and the youngest being a spoiled b!tc# that can't find happiness because she thinks she has been screwed out of the love that the elder siblings got...

The youngest has always ended up pregnant, dropping out of school, or just leaching off her parents while doing her damnedist to piss them off...

After seeing how all my friends and such have truned out I'm DAMN glad that I'm an only child!!

I was an only child for 13 years and am the youngest (but by far one of the smartest) kids in my class

I talk to myself a TON! sometimes I'll go into the back yard just to make up stories and say them out loud

I wouldn't call it a mental problem, I would call it being creative

Most only children are spoiled brats, but my parents raised me right, so I'm one of the nicest people you'll ever meet

One trait I developed is that I love being alone
I would rather work alone on projects than in groups
and I don't get bored easy

Ok here's my insight on only children:
I've met many, and most tend to have a hard exterior and seem somewhat self-entitled. I see them to be shy, or very outgoing but not too patient with people. They've been the center of the family, so it is often that they feel like a leader in a pack or they're less obliged to yield to others. This may not apply to you, but I feel this way. As a child, I was weird with my friends b/c I always wanted to play make-belief games...and be the leader.

Anyways, it's cool to be an only child. Don't believe others when they say you're not normal because there's millions of only childs out there.

Yes, I'm an only child. I recently read that people who had a low birth weight are more easily depressed. There are all kinds of theories out there. I was always pretty reserved, but that could've been my upbringing. I didn't miss what I didn't have as far as having a sibling.

I'm an only child. I, too talk to myself, but I prefer to call it thinking outloud ;-). Oh, I also like putting on personal fashion shows when I'm bored. Another thing, I'm really moody and I keep my cell phone on silent @ all times because I'm not really a phone person. I think it comes from basically being alone and having only adults to talk to most of the time because I'm more of a loner than someone who enjoys being in large groups.

I am not an only child and very grateful for it too.

A lot of friends I talk to that are only children wish that their parents had at least one more child. Then I've talked to some who love being the only child.

I think it depends on the parents.

I am the youngest of five and have chats with myself all the time....I often imagine someone else is there and chat to them too. I enjoy it but I whisper instead of out loud and I have noticed both my children do it too. Is it abnormal???? My husband keeps asking me who I am talking to but he already knows....and he thinks its a bit odd....I like my own company but then I am never alone with all this imagination! My mother was an only child and she is nuts.....I like the eccentricities it brings with it....

I'm a only child and I'm a loner because I had to learn how to keep myself company. In fact, I'm quite satisfied being on my own. Also, I"m real modest. I don't prefer to dress or undress in front of friends who don't mind walking around naked in front of me, which by the way, I don't mind but I'm just not comfortable with it myself.
