Any other teens addicted to caffiene? I drink 4 cups of coffee each morning and at least 2 cans of soda per day. When I don't drink caffiene, I get headaches. How can I stop drinking as much caffiene?

i think i'm addicted too, i'm 15...
i used to drink like 4+ cups of coffee a day, but that's it.
like i hate soda & i don't drink tea.
well, i decided i was drinking too much, so i decided to cut it down to 1 cup, and i got terrible headaches!
of course, i caved in, and i'm a bit better now.
i drink 2-3 cups a day now.
also, i tried like pure espresso, and it didn't do anything to me, and caffeine doesn't wake me; if anything, it makes me sleepy.
maybe you could try cutting back like a cup at a time to like 2 cups of coffee, and a can of soda....?

** to the poster you mentioned that it causes problems -
i've heard that it's good for you, and i've also heard it's bad for you. so, i believe that it is good in moderation, much like everything else...
also, i don't believe in the whole stunting growth thing.
maybe i'm an exception, but i'm one of the tallest of my friends, and i've been drinking coffee from the age of 3... [haha. my whole family are coffee freaks]

You will get headaches if you cut back drastically, so don't. As aggravating as it sounds, gradually cut back. Example:

Day 1: 4 cups coffee & 2 cans soda (as normal)

Days 2 & 3: 3 1/2 cups coffee & 2 cans soda.

Days 4 & 5: 3 1/2 cups coffee & 1 1/2 cans soda.

Day 6: 3 cups coffee & 1 1/2 cans of soda

Days 7 & 8: 3 cups of coffee & 1 can of soda

Days 9 & 10: 2 1/2 cups of coffee & 1 can of soda

Day 11: 2 cups of coffee & 1 can of soda.
This amount is ok, if you make sure you get enough calcium & vitamin D. Caffeine may deplete some of these vitamins.

Start tapering off of it. It's classified as a drug so there are side effects (your headache) when it's not in your system. Drink one less cup of coffee a day for a few days then drop a soda for a few days and so on. Be sure to replace it with another non-caffiene drink you like. Or switch to decaf, it still has caffiene in it just not as much

I drink loads of Diet Coke. I'm trying to get myself off the caffeine too, and the best thing to do is drink loads of water for the headaches and dehydration, and cut down the amount slowly. If you do it too fast, you'll get serious withdrawal symptoms. Even as a first step maybe try to drink 3 cups instead of 4 in the morning for a week, then next week cut it down to 2, and so on. Just make sure you do it slowly.

Yes, you are.

I found out the 'miracle' of coffee when I was 12. It tastes GREAT! And still do.
It was Christmas and on that night itself I was helping myself to 3 cups already in 3 hours.
Then got addicted, only drinking 1 cup a day of course...
Then I found out coffee gives you bad breath and teeth and makes you short.
So I quit by drinking from 5 cups a week, to 1 cup a month.

Start drinking tea.

Cut down gradually, substituting decaf coffee for regular and decaf soft drinks. It should only take a few days to stop getting headaches.

You should slowly but steadily cut the amount of caffeine, it's not good for you. Start by dropping a cup in the morning, wait 1 or 2 weeks, drop another and so on. The same with the cans... Good luck!

yep addicted you are! Been there. Best way to stop drinking is to limit yourself.

Dont go cold turkey, caffeine withdrawls suck!

Try one cup of coffee a day and one soda..Then just drink water.

CUT OUT THE CAFFEINE! Caffeine is really really bad for you at your age! Please! It causes all kinds of problems if you drink it to much. Did you know there is caffeine in soda? If you drink coffee and soda a LOT, than that is REALLY really bad! It also stunts your growth. You can drink it once in a while but everyday at your age AND 4 cups of that stuff is very bad for you!

How did I learn all this? My parents; they taught me and I'm not allowed to have caffeine. I don't want to get health problems anyway.

The first thing for you to do is find an alternative. I would suggest trying some essential oils - chamomile, lavemder, lemon, orange, peppermint, rosemary and tea tree oils just to name a few - they should help ease you, and calm you down - you must be hyper! Secondly, try to find what's causing the headaches. Stress? Lack of sleep? Try to find a remedy to that. And thirdly, you may want to talk to your pediatrician.
