yes it should be downsized hugely but everyone wants socialist health care and wants to sue everyone instead of working for the money..everyone thinks that they deserve everything for free like the government owes them..the only thing i want from the government is my freedoms which im losing day by day sadly..i dont care if youre dem or a rep but damn people wheres our common sense people?
we need to vote for the people that...among other things are telling us the truth and downsizing the government

I am still trying to figure out what happened to States Rights! The Federal Government seems to want to stick its nose into everything without regard to what any state decides to do, what the states electorate decides by vote...here in California, we passed a Medical Marajuana law, yet the Feds just cannot keep there hands off of us..and it is true in every state. The feds cannot handle the simplest of things, let alone big things, FEMA is a total joke, Homeland Security is no more than Civil rights destruction in the guise of protection..I personally fear the Homeland Security people more than I fear Terrorists! The Federal Government seems to be responsible to no one, at least under this administration. I see double digit inflation due to this administration's foolish policies, all on the backs of the poorer people, like Robin Hood in reverse...Take from the Poor and give to the rich! I saved 138.00 in Tax cuts from this administration, and now spend at least that much more per week in inflated costs at the grocery and gas station...some great piece of work going on here! Downsized? ...perhaps outsourced would be a better idea! Goldwing

As an ex-insider, downsizing normally means outsourcing to still get the job done, but not pay for the benefits (ex. retirement, pay raise, health benefits etc.) to those hired. It is really all about the money rather than size of the agency and what it does. I think it would have to be on a case-by-case basis to do that. If we could conquer government waste spending I think that would be the better direction to go.
With that said, I still have a problem when Reagan de-regulated the air traffic controllers to "downsize." Are we really better off now in that area? I prefer government to stay involved in matters such as drug regulations and import/export of foods, etc. Geez I sound like a Democrat!
My opinion

I believe we should have a revolution and get rid of all the fat cats in the government and all their perks and no one should be allowed to make over 100k and have to buy all their own things and use social security like the rest of us working folks, maybe they would realize it is not as easy as they think. No more free plane rides or limo rides, take the metro work year round. OK can you tell I am not happy with the US government right now, sorry on my soapbox, so back to your question YES, wait, is this consider an unpatriotic act and am I going to be visited by the authorities, I meant no disrespect sir, I apologize, sure hope they read to the end.

Yes - definitely - Bush promised smaller Govt. in the beginning when elected - another lie. But I think that there is a huge need to eliminate the dead wood in D.C. Also I think that first ladies should also take on more responsibilities and get paid for doing a "Job" and not just act as ambassadors for "Just Say NO!" and other social programs. Mrs. Bush is championing READING for children - has she never heard of schools! Just trying to make a point here! CJ

Ron Paul. do no longer in basic terms pay attention to what he says, look at his 20 3 hundred and sixty 5 days vote casting record. he's the only person in Congress that usually votes like he reported he would and alway in accordance to the form.

Definitely. If I managed my finances and overspent the way the government does there's no doubt I'd be arrested and held accountable for my debts. Shouldn't they be held responsible also? I think there's an awful lot of government waste that we can do away with. Why should "we the people" be the only ones that have to tighten our belts?

Downsized is the most beautiful word in the english language when refering to the size of govnerment. Nice question. I am afraid I don't have enough bandwidth to list all my reasons. Lets keep my answer simple. YES.
