I have a wedding to go to tomorrow - and I have the cutest pale blue silky dress, and gorgeous silver shoes to go with it - they're nice, kind of strappy but with an open toe.

It's about 30 degrees here in upstate NY, and I was wondering - can I get away with wearing pantyhose? If so, should they be neutral color (or nude, or whatever - I don't dress up very often)?

Unfortunately this is a must-wear-dress-type wedding, otherwise I'd wear some nice wool pants and not worry about it.

Any other advise? Thank you much!

And my shoes aren't sandals - they're sexy and strappy, and ... you know - dress shoes. With a heel. It's a 40 minute drive from my house to the church, a half hour drive from the church to the reception, and another half hour drive home - so should I just bring a blanket in the car?
Plus, churches are notoriously COLD in the winter. All that marble....

Yes you can and you should for a dressy event. That trashy bare legged look is going out of style. Don't wear reinforced toe -wear sandal foot hose they are designed for open toe shoes, you'll look fantastic. Have a great time!

Yes, wear a neutral color and make sure when you put them on you line the seam up under your toes instead of right at the tip. Take along a pair of tennis shoes or slippers to wear for those longer drives and slip your heels back on before you get out of the car. As long as you have good quality hose you shouldn't have any issues with them bunching at your ankles. Oh, and polish those nails to match your dress or your shoes!

They also make open-toed pantyhose. They're available pretty much anywhere hosiery is sold.

Whatever your hosiery preference, you've probably shied away from legwear due to the fact that bare legs have been "in," and you might have been told that you should never wear hosiery with open-toed shoes.

This advice might be great if we lived in a world free of varicose veins and bruises; in which we all loved our legs; and in which we never got cold. But that's not the world most of us live in. In fact, it's a world some of us have never even visited.

Granted, it doesn't create a polished, professional, sexy or even marginally attractive look to have bunched up panty hose sticking out the ends of your shoes, but just because some people wear gravy-stained t-shirts doesn't mean none of us should wear t-shirts -- it just means we need to wear them well.

Several women have written in to tell me about toeless or "open toed" hose, and panty hose with sandal toes or sheer toes are viable options as well. As far as tights go, look for styles that don't have reinforced toes.

pantyhose yes, open-toed shoes no...since the wedding is so close by, i dont think you have time to go shopping for another pair of shoes, so i think the best thing for you to do is buy a pair of open-toed panty-hose or the type that stops at the ankle. If all else fails and you cant get another pair of shoes of panyhose, go for the least-apparent color you have....and DONT try cutting the toes off the panty hose yourself, that NEVER works.

for sure! Pantyhose are sooooooo much better looking than bare-legs, and even in open toe shoes
