you did something wrong - you tried to turn it on too early.
in case you really spilled water on it (and not something sweet like coke) you have a certain chance to get it back to life. it was very good to unplug it immediately and turn it upside down.
the bad thing was to use a blow dryer. you should first remove the keyboard (there must be some screws on the bottom of the laptop).
try again and remove first the battery then the keyboard (be careful with the keyboard, it's connected to the mainboard with a cable). use some absorbent (kitchen or WC) paper and remove the water inside (don't use a cloth). after you've done this you can use the blow dryer again but not too hot. then wait for about 2 hours.
insert the keyboard and the battery and try again.

As you are seeing, it very rarely is reversible. If you know someone who is PC/notebook certified, you may want to see if they could take it apart and look at it and maybe see if it's FUBAR'd. Taking it to the Geek Squad or CompUSA will cost you at least $100 for them just to look at it.
Now.. IF you have to purchase a new one, no matter what brand you choose to buy, see what type of MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY is offered.
There are usually several different plans and prices... 1, 2, 3 and even 4 year extended warranties and then some WITH SCREEN DAMAGE, some with ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE.
Obviously, I am working up to recommending getting a manufacturers' warranty with accidental damage... NOT A STORE WARRANTY OR THIRD PARTY WARRANTY... JUST MANUFACTURER. And even then, it's the warranty with accidental damage -- and you have to make sure it covers spillage such as what you experienced. It's a bit pricey, but it's still going to be cheaper than buying a new one at full price.
Sorry..

I have actually spilled an alcoholic drink on my laptop. I just soaked it up and left if off for a couple of days. I popped the keys off a couple of days later to finish cleaning it out-- mine was sticky.
And now... several months later, I am typing this nice suggestion to you.
Good luck.

u peobally should have let it air dry, and take it apart as much as posible. there have been times i once had a game boy advance (regular) and dropped it in the snow. i found it a few days later when the snow melted. ther was water in the screen and all. i air-dried it and it worked just fine. i would take ur comp to a computer shop and have them check it out. u might get lucky and they might be able 2 fix

yes you do have 99.9% chance of recovery.
1. Quickly remove as much water as possible.
2. Just let your laptop sit for a couple weeks (or days) and turn it on. the water should be gone now.
Don't worry, your laptop will make a full recovery.
