It is silly, the Kyoto treaty ends in 4 years anyway.
And while the growth of Co2 emissions is decreasing in the US, it is increasing in the EU.
CO2 emissions growth in the US was far ahead of that of the EU from 1990-2000,
But from 2000-2004, America's rate of growth in CO2 emissions was eight percentage points lower than from 1995-2000, while the EU saw an increase of 2.3 points.
From 2000-2004, the United States' CO2 emissions growth rate was 2.1%, compared to the EU's 4.5%.
That happened while the US economy was expanding 38% faster than the economies of the EU while experiencing population growth at twice the rate of the EU.
And that doesn't take into account, that the CO2 emissions from eastern europe, have dropped dramaticly over the last decade. Which has limited the EU's overall emission growth rate.

The EU is comprised of a bunch of socialist countries, who resent the fact the the U.S.A. is the greatest country in the world. They know Kyoto would damage our economy, while not really accomplishing anything.
The emerging nations, such as China and India, and third world countries such as Mexico and Brazil contribute far more pollution per capita than we do. But they love to blame everything on us!

For two reasons.
1. The U.S. is one of the major polluters.
2. If the U.S. signs there's no cheap "BUT THEY
DON'T SIGN AS WELL" excuse for the rest.
@Balthazar: LOL. Are you serious? Have you
ever checked their economic power? It's running
circles around us and they're just getting out of
a depression whereas we are "booming". And
half of Europe can be considered sub optimal.
What do you think their GDP will look like when
all those eastern European countries have come
to par with the western ones?

It's hard to make an oppressive socialist one world government without the most powerful nation bowing to it's power.

Because it lends credence the belief that we are going to burn in a painful everlasting fiery hell unless we listen to Gore. I'm still waiting for them to go after water vapor, which is the most abundant greenhouse gas in the Earth's atmosphere.

The US, unlike the EU, is not facing a shortage of energy and is not dependent on energy from Russia who have already cut the pipeline once and there's nothing to stop them from doing it again.
To level the economic playing field, the EU needs for the US, China, and India to consume less energy.

They are socialists who want to use the power of government to control people's lives. They also hope the US is so stupid as to sign this. If we did, it will destroy our economy.

Outside of the obvious environmental reasons, I think a lot of the pressure is a result to Bush's foreign policy.
