I am in 8th grade. On Thursday my math teacher was gone and he had a substitute. We were working on the daily work and I asked a fellow classmate for one answer. The sub yelled from the desk. "Hey, don't give him answers, he will never learn that way!" Then jokingly I hollerd out "COLLEGE HERE I COME!" Then she said "Yeah right, like you'll even make it out of high school." That made me so mad. I seriously had to restrain myself from throwing the stapler across the room into her face. After she told me that she started grilling me on everything I did. She was treating me like a third grader and was very disrespectful. I don't want to go to my teacher because he probably won't do anything. What should I do? Also, what would you have done RIGHT THERE in class?

No one probably remembers this incident but you. It's one sad person's opinion. Those who cannot do teach. Those who cannot teach become substitute teachers.

if this was a test that you were taking, you should not ask someone else for the answer, if it was a lesson I see nothing wrong with asking a friend for help, as for you being in 8th grade, I would not worry too much about college right now but concern yourself with high school first, and as far as your substitute teacher is concerned , remember, he or she is just that, a substitute. when you let someone else make judgement calls on your life you give your life over to other people and you will never be your own person. know what it is you want and go for it, as long as it does not hurt anyone else.

That's rediculous. She had no right whatsoever to say that you wouldn't make it out of high school. One, because you're not actually IN high school, and two, as a sub, she had no measure of your individual ability as a student. Teachers (regardless of being a sub or a regular), are meant to be encouraging, not demeaning. I can't think of one instance where her responce was warrented.

If I were in that situation, given my temper, I probably really WOULD have thrown the stapler at her head. Or, walked out, but now that I'm in high school myself and there are hall monitors everywhere, I'd just be sent back after the hall moniter took the subs side.

if you had not completed your work and were reprimanded for trying to get an answer you deserved it. Jokingly or not the " College Here I Come" was uncalled for. You deserved to be treated like a third grader. When you were disrespectful to the sub by "wiseing off" you have no cause to complain. Learn from your mistakes and move on.

That is so unproffesional. I would have told her, "Yeah? Well, obviously, you never made it out of kindergarten, since you apparently have no manners."

Wow, I'm so amazed that a teacher would say that. I think there must be some law or something, because it sounds RIDICULOUS.

Just report her, even if you think nothing will happen. Probably there will be consequences for her, though.

You could've told her if you had to rely on just one person, and that person was only a "substitute" in the field they graduated from college for, then she may have a valid point.
Thankfully, you have other "real" teachers who can give you the guidance and encouragement you need to succeed.

Take some of the other kids who were in the class as witnesses and go tell the school superintendent! He is the BIG WIG and can fire, reprimand or discipline her for that! She was way out of line!

Tell your teacher or principal what she said. If she's a problem, they have one more reason not to ask her to sub. People who say things like that to kids have no business in the classroom.

Let it go. U be the bigger one, the good one, and just do your bit and just ignore it. By getting back at someone, you will be spoiling your own mental and emotional health. I think that was a really very rude thing for her to say, and I can't believe she said that. She has a problem. She doesn't know how to talk. Instead of nicely encouraging, she discouraged u. You know who you are. Just be good, and study hard - you will definitely make it to college and MORE....

I'm in high school and I too like to joke around with my teachers in class but that's outrageous dude. I would have told her to watch her mouth unless she would like this school to be the last place she wants to sub at in her life. Seriously, she shouldn't have said anything and you can definitely report her to the principal or school. But since you said your teacher wouldn't do anything you make it seem like your one of the kids who fool around a lot and are the kid who pays no attention and is obnoxious and rude. Otherwise, report her and get her penalized. :D
