Why are liberals hated so much?

Just take a look at a lot of these post's here on YA! and you'll see what I mean.

Or is it just the die-hard fundamental liberals that people dislike?

I'm not a liberal or anything, I'm just curious why most people (it seems) seem to have hostile or negative attitudes towards them.

I don't believe liberals are hated, except by the extreme far right. Normal conservatives certainly dislike how the looney far left acts, but those extremists don't define mainstream liberals.

The far left is quite vocal however, and their stupid actions negatively affect liberals in general. When speakers can't even give their speach because inconsiderate far left loons shout them down or storm the stage, things are going to far.

The more left you go, the more intolerant of other people's opinions they become. Supposedly advocating free speach, the reality is that they are for free speach only as long as you agree with them.

Things like protesting near the funerals of soldiers, with signs indicating they deserved to die, and putting fake blood in the face of the Secretary of State do nothing to endear mainstream America to their cause.

One should not buy into the marketing strategy of promoting the naming of certain groups, like liberals and neo-conservatives. It's a trick/ploy by the organization that runs the country to try and divide the nation into those that support President Bush and his invasion and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan, and those who oppose his actions. Those that support him are right/righteous, those that oppose him are wrong/evil. This idea of naming and labeling liberal and conservative was thought of by Karl Rove and others and sold like a shiny new toy at Walmart with all the advertising and marketing that go along with the promotion. Too many have bought into it, and that is because this is a generation raised and weaned on television and marketing.
Americans in general are very ignorant of international affairs, with a majority of the population never traveling outside of the country. The media no longer abides by the sacred ritual of reporting the news, and letting the viewers decide for themselves what needs to be retained, but is now dominated by reporters who report their opinion, sprinkled with the news, skewed to their position on political matters.

I think that part of the media likes to portray a "liberal" as a hippy holding up signs or a welfare bum, illegal supporter, drug user, etc etc etc.. I think many Americans don't understand the differance between a "true liberal" or just somebody who represents a single belief that would qualify. Like somebody who protests the war, automatically is branded as a liberal.. Yet this person could have absolutely no knowledge of politics whatsoever.. This seems to be the mainstream of the media..

All these people who are branded with this label.. I highly doubt somebody taking advantage of welfare, or overdosing on heroin, would call themselves a liberal. Nor do liberals themselves support such behavior..

People just don't like the truth. But I haven't seen anyone hate anyone who thinks independently and can form a like-minded opinion without being told to.

That would be the government and Bush supporters.

Because they want to destroy FREEDOM by taking away the power of individuals and giving it to an all powerful central government that will MAKE THEM BEHAVE IN A MANNER ACCEPTABLE TO MARXIST SOCIALIST TYRANTS.
They do this by high taxation, restrictions on the rights guaranteed by the Bill of Rights, and through specious arguments designed to convince us that people can't make it on their own but have to have a central government to provide for them.

This is a good question. I always wondered if it is because we care very much about other people's welfare and well being; that we care if people have a job, a place to live, food to eat, their children have dry clean clothes and a place to sleep at night; that people don't have to sleep on the street after serving in the military and fighting for their country; that schools and hospitals are more important than tanks and new weapon systems; that peace is better for humans than war.

I guess it is because we care about quality of life after birth and others only seem to care up to the moment of birth; and then you are on your own.

It is curious though, why liberals have to be demonized by other groups in order for those other groups to be elected.

just a reply to "rukidding"... i think you have liberals confused with conservatives because liberals are the most open-minded people i know. they support change, they support new ideas, accepting the taboo, pro-choice, etc. yes, some can put down conservatives, but thats a little hypocritical to me, seeing as being a liberal means being accepting.

look up the definition of a liberal: "broad: showing or characterized by broad-mindedness," "tolerant of change; not bound by authoritarianism, orthodoxy, or tradition"

i appreciate that you have an opinion but please be more educated before you put down something you dont understand.

if you ask me, its probably the conservatives that supposedly hate the liberals because they are often (but not always) less open to change, less accepted ideas, or opinions other than their own.
