I dont know for sure but i was watching are you smarter than a fifth grader last night on fox, they asked same question and the guy dropped out and they never gave the answer. But my guess before i look at the other answers would be delaware

well you need to be more specific. do you mean which was the first to have a permanent settlement or which was the first to be apart of the Union.
if you want to know which was the first to be permanently settled then it is Virginia. the first successful settlement was Jamestown after 2 trys, but the first was Roanoke Island but that was unsuccessful because everyone of the settlers mysteriously disappeared and still nobody knows what happened to them
if you want which was the first to be apart of the union it was the 13 original colonies because they were all admitted at once.
