Who thinks that the city of San Francisco is stereotyped as being the gay epicenter of the known planet, who thinks that this is a valid/non-valid perception.

I can't believe that Tom told me to "stay in the closet".

The stereotype is false. I lived in the Bay Area for 20 years. For me (in the U.S.), the best place to live is where the best people live, and San Francisco is tops. I never really noticed whether a person was gay or not, either in my professional or personal life. I always felt SF was as straight as any other city, except more scenic.

For all you homophobes who answered, get a life.

Glad you like it there, I use to live there since its my hometown. I was born and raised there most of my life and its nice. NO the city isn't gay just because it has a gay community, people are just mad that the city granted gay marriages in the past... People hold things too seriously these days...

I lived in San Francisco for all my 20s and 30s (1980 to 2001). I arrived as a scared gay kid looking for acceptance and I found it! Yes, I do believe that San Francisco is the gayest large city in the U.S. Gay men and women were everywhere and were completely open at work and with their lives in general. From what I have read 20% of the adult male population is gay, and I find that to be understatement. San Francisco is a beautiful city and I miss it dearly. I moved to New England in 2001 because I knew I would never be able to buy a home there. The only drawback to being a city that so many people want to live in, is that everything is very expensive.

I have never been there.. but I heard that most of them do move there.. I don't know if it is because they are more accepted there.. than most places.. i just moved for Georgia.. and seems like only the ladies.. seemed OK with gay men.. but lesbian .. they kinda looked down on.. just did not verbalize it like the men did.. when i moved to Florida.. it seemed like.. live and let live attitude

Each big city probably has it's gay quarter, but S.F. is extreme, also D.C. Do America a favor and stay in the closet!
