When you purchase property in ontario it seems that your local government tells you what you can or cannot do with it.In my neck of the woods because it is a tourist area we are under regulations on what trees we can cut how many cars we have in the back 40 even when you have to tresspass to see them a person cannot even have a hobby if his or her nieghbours dont like it .It has gotten so bad that you cannot even have your choice of pet out in the country where your nearest nieghbour is 2 miles away. Even a camelion is illegal no exotic pets. Science fiction is coming true BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING.

where the crap do you live?? I live in Ontario, all my life, and have never encountered these problems. I was born in Niagara Falls, a huge tourist area, lived there until I was 23 and nothing like what you describe has ever happened. I now live in the Great Northland, and nothing like that here either. They sell Chameleons in the local pet stores........they are not illegal. But I have to say someone should be doing something about the amount of junkers people keep in their back 40---->bad for the environment, dangerous as they rust and rot, and just plain look like ****. Unless its your business.....send em to the scrappers!

If you're really not hurting any-one than no.
But the world is getting far too crowded.
Exotic pets pose ecological hazards.
Cars are polluters.
Trees are an ecological resource.
Any resource you use is likely to be limited.
Defining the boundary of "hurting any-one" gets
wider every day.
The problem is choosing for a sane government,
(probably an oxymoron as no sane person would want the job.)

Your situation isn't unique. All over the US, local governments or their proxies, civic organizations, can tell you what color to paint your house, how high your grass can be, how long a car can be in front of your house without being moved, etc. These are usually deed restrictions -- contracts you entered into when you bought the property. The rationale is that it's for the common good.
