Back in the early 60's I was around 10 or so.My cousin and I (female also around the same age) were models for a major clothing store. We did a lot of Saturday jobs and never got to go play and be kids that summer. We still talk about that job when we get together. It always ends up with the underwear ads,it was in the early 60's that the "cartoon " themed underwear was introduced and we modeled them.

My worst job was that of "Golf Ball Washer" at a driving range near my house. It was my first job and I got paid $5.50 and hour. There was only one other employee and then there was George. George was the geriatric owner with a terminal lung disease. Hearing that most people tend to feel sorry for him, the sweet, dying old man. Luckily however I am here to tell you that that man was the meanest, old fart I have ever met. He often enjoyed picking up and golf balls that I had not yet been able to pick up off the floor and he would then proceed to throw them back out onto the range so that I waould have to go pick them up again. That sucked for sure, but the fact that it was midnight and I always had school the next day made it all that much worse. I worked there from February to May and my last day was one of the best of my life. That day George was not in so his daughter was working the register and she was letting me have it for getting the concrete outside the entrance wet in the process of washing their dog. It was May and the cement would be dry in mere minutes but I knew my wisdom would be wasted on that miserable old hag so I saved it. Minutes later after fuming I finally let her have it. I told her she needed not a Miata (she had just bought and was so proud of), but a Grand Marquee to haul her big as$ around, and instructed her to put my check in the mail; I would not be coming back.

Running a 130 lb jackhammer in 110 degree weather for most of a summer, doing parking lot repairs at the casino where I worked.

It was pretty tough. And for $6 per hour.

Painting the Cistine Chapel roof. Took two coats of industrial strength white emulsion to cover it after some Italian lad painted grafitti all over it.
