I was freaking out from the contractions so bad I didnt feel it. Once I had it, I really enjoyed my birth, it didnt hurt, I was aware of everything it was amazing, the greatest day of my life. I always say I went through 2 labours, the one before the epidural, and the one after. My only complaint about the epidural is that I get back pains where it was.

That's a great question!
An epidural is supposed to lessen the birth pains.
Yet when you see sizeof the the needle & realize it's going to be inserted in your spine, you immediately sense pain.
It's the lesser of two evils!
Go Figure!

WHo wants a needle stuck in your back? Yes childbirth is suppose to be painful, but it shouldn't hurt you much because you want the baby and he or she is worth the pain. So please try to avoid the pain of a needle at all costs. Besides, the drug is more harmful to the baby because it gets absorbed very quickly into the blood stream and thus into the baby. So if you can deal with that then please do. Call the Bradley Method at 1 800 A BIRTH for more info about this and other subjects relating to childbirth safety etc.

I had my epidural over 16 years ago. I don't remember the pain just feeling like I was going to fall out of the bed. They had me sit on the edge of the bed and lean forward.
It does make me wonder if it is related to the person you gave it to you. Just like some nurses can draw blood and it doesn't hurt and other feel like they are trying to hurt you.

My third one hurt like crazy and I had phantom pain at the site for 6 months after my daughter was born. Hurt more than the childbirth? Probably not.

Because they are penetrating the spine. Of course it was worse than childbirth, because after the epidural, you do not feel any pain.

Mine was pretty bad too. It depends on whose giving the epidural. Like anything. . . no matter how much someone's trained in something, they still have to perfect the technique.

mine hurt pretty bad
and it sucked cuz it wore off in about an hour
and when they were cutting me for my csection
i was screaming like someone was killing me
so they had to knock me out with some kinda drug
if i would have known it was gonna wear off
i wouldnt have went through all the pain of it
cuz it was supposed to be vaginal
so i have no idea why it hurts
it just does! its a huge needle and the pain gets to our heads beceause we know how big the needle is

I have had it twice and I didn't think it was so bad. My second one didn't take though and I had a Cesarean and I could FEEL it and I was gasping and moaning and my doctor had to get me on some gas quickly and after he told me that there came a point where he just had to go forward cos I was lying there bleeding. It was a strange and surreal thing.
