I've had this happen to me numerous times. I mean, why even bother if they're not gonna pick the " best " answer, atleast with some degree of regularity...?

I think I figured out what the problem is. Most of the users on here are much younger than I am and just don't relate to me. As a matter of fact, I sometimes wonder if I relate to anyone...

I'm not sure if you meant to say stars, or thumbs up. I don't think that the most thumbs up always means that people think that's the best answer. Sometimes they give thumbs up or down for various reasons. Often when a question is asked people answer and give thumbs up right away. Some don't see the question until hours later, so, when they do get on,there's no one there giving thumbs up. The point to me is that when an asker asks a question, they really need to decide which answer comes closest to what they think is best.. That's how I understood this to work. I don't ask many questions because I find it very hard to pick a best answer. Sometimes so many of the answers seem like "Best" to me.". The few questions I have asked, I would never think of picking best answer because of "who I know". To me this is supposed to be just fun, and giving, and getting information. I wouldn't take it too personal. Just sharing and giving an honest answer to me is fun. Some just let it go to voting but I like to see it resolved so I pick best when I've asked.

its not what you know....its who you know....this should give you a clear picture of what gose on...but i dont worry about it ...points and stars hold no value to me if they want to do that people soon catch on to what is happening and just stay clear of those that practice it. thus they become a nothing...and sit there with only there in crowd.who also become nothing......seamanab ps ..thats when the block button comes into play

They don't go by the stars...only what answer best suits them.

its all about their "best answer" not what the community gave in stars. Its about preference

Because often times the best answers go unlooked by other answerers.

They are probably just choosing the one that is the best answer to them and not everyone else...

That's what I do.
