They talk about how important American freedoms are, but they want to quash dissent. What kind of freedom is it that can't stand criticism?

Because they hate Freedom of Speech. (not for themselves, just for anyone that doesn't agree with them)

Pony Soprano, Jim Gilchrist was NOT physically attacked by the left. The Young Republican club of Columbia University in NYC invited him for a speech or something like that on illegal immigration and what he's doing to end it or help out. Other students heard about it and protested since they knew that he's a member of the minuteklan, and with protests of this nature, they get out of hand. How do you know that the students were "the left"? You can't tell what political ideology or party they identify with just because they protested Gilchrist showing up for a speech.

Tommy, I'm sure he actually meant Repbulicans because if it were liberals like you claim it to be, then the asker would've said so. If anyone calls someone a radical, right wing, religious extremist, homophobe, then normally they back it up as to why they think that.

Ty H, That is NOT true and you know it! Tell me, when was Ann Coulter "physically attacked onstage by the left"? I'm sure that would've been in the news had that actually happened. They don't want to close down talk radio with the fairness doctrine. Tell me, how do you know that they even are going to close down talk radio? What do you have against the fairness doctrine? The only time they can't stand the heat is when someone like your Ann Coulter slanders someone who disagrees with her view.

Bob, you've got that all wrong and you know it! The kind of conservative speakers who get invited to college campuses are the speakers who have spewed hate speech and regularly slandered "the left". The funny thing is is that Conservatives DO act in such a childish way. Usually they've resorted to finger pointing and mudslinging to get what they want. The Swift Boaters did that with John Kerry in '04.

Now, to answer the question, it's so they can accomplish whatever it is they have set on their agenda without anyone getting in the way of it.

Not really Republicans but International Corporations who got conservatives on a dog leash

Why do you think the US government play stupid on the US deficit trade with China? WTO = TRIP

TRIP = China, Chili, India, Korea can sell whatever they want in the USA so long as they promise not to produce cheaper drugs for the world

Bla, Bla, Bla, more babbling from the Liberal Left. Give an example of Republicans wanting to silence criticism from the Moderates. Constructive criticism can be a good thing for Democrats and Republicans, but criticism by itself accomplishes nothing.

Many Republicans are moderates or liberals so your question doesn't make much sense. Not to mention you didn't give a single example.

Republicans and the religious right are so closely linked they might as well be twins. And you say something that isn't supportive of either and they call you a communist and a devil. This movie with Nicole Kidman is just the latest example. "oh my ,it makes relgion and christianity out to be bad, it should be banned". I'll tell you what, if the Sunday preachers and pastors stop giving their messages on Sunday, which is a function of free speech, then we will stop making movies that show how bad religion was, is and can be. If the republicans/ relgious right insist that 'creation' be taught in schools, then evolution should be taught in church - deal? Republicans have forgottent this country was founded by liberals and radicals, as free speech, religion, etc were radical ideas at the time. You never hear them say, 'thanks to the liberals of the 1700's we now have America!"

This is too much of a generalization. Do you have specifics? From what I see and hear, it's the other way around.

That's how they get their way. That is how Bush got us into his illegal and immoral war. Even the news media were afraid to print the truth. Bill Maher said something and ABC fired him. They still keep us in the dark quite a bit. Their "embedded" reporters only report what Bush and Cheney want the world to know. Foreign newspapers give much more information.

Yes!!! Republicans are bad about that.
I "think" they get tired of hearing all that Commie, Pinko, Fascist, Nazi Prattle from the Left & the sissy Moderates, who don't really believe in anything.

Good Question. You just won a soggy cigar.

Thank you.
