My breasts hurt. I feel it more at night and it's very uncomfortable. I haven't gotten my period yet this month but should be getting it the last week. I know breasts can get sore or tender before getting your period but this has never happened to me before.

The breast pain started about a month ago and was VERY bad but got gradually better but i still have it. i went to the doctor and she didn't find any lumps. she said to check back with her in a month (i haven't gone back yet).

i took a pregnancy test twice at different times and they both came back negative. i really don't think im pregnant. are there any other answers? plese help !

Breast pain is a very common complaint that is frustrating for all involved. Patients are indeed in real discomfort but health care professionals can do very little to relieve the pain. The good news is that breast pain is very rarely associated with significant breast disease (i.e. cancer). Pain that is diffuse, bilateral and cyclical (changes with periods and hormonal fluxes) is even more likely to be benign. Focal pain that does not change with periods, etc. is very rarely associated with an underlying breast problem that could be malignant. For this reason focal pain may need evaluation with clinical exam and imaging with mammography/ultrasound.

The diffuse cyclical pain that comes and goes with periods can also be seen in patients on hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Pain is often caused by cysts that swell with monthly hormonal fluxes.
Individual cysts (diagnosed by ultrasound) can be easily drained and that may provide relief (although sometimes temporary because cysts can recur). There are pharmacological means to control pain (birth control pills, etc.) but these need to be prescribed by a patient's doctor.
Some people report relief with cessation of caffeine/chocolate but careful scientific studies fail to prove this correlation. Some women swear by this and if it works, who can argue with success?

This could be related to a condition called costochondritis which is an inflammation of the cartillage around the ribcage. It can cause breast tenderness and pain too.

Ask your doctor about the possibility of costochondritis or something similar to it to see if she thinks this could be the cause of your pain.

I think maybe it is a rare virus. I had similar symptoms several years ago. I had had a hysterectomy so pregnancy was not possible. It had to do with the lymph vessels collecting fluid. Check with your doctor and let me know if thats it. It finally ended after about 4 months.
