Be very careful of competitions. Many are not legit. I have heard of people who won competitions that guaranteed them publication of their book. They waited and fought for four years to get it published as guaranteed. Then they sold 21 copies - 10 of which they got free as the winner. Always check with Preditors and Editors and Absolute Write Water Cooler's Bewares and Background Checks before entering. And be very careful of contests that ask you for reading fees.
