Hotel? I suggest looking at lasvegas.com or hotels.com, thats tough because what is your budget? what is your age? What are you looking for in a notel?

Restaurant? buffet at the Rio is a dont miss. I usually do the buffets sorry

Shows? Cirque de Soliel - there are several to choose from and they range in price. This also depends on what you like as far as style. I think lasvegas.com should be able to help you

Rental car vs Taxi? will you be drinking? Do you have a designated driver? If you will be drinking I suggest a taxi. If you want to get around on your own in Vegas (away from the strip) then rent a car otherwise the taxi's are good enough and walking too!

Local: Are you into magic? Criss Angel lives at the Luxor and they are filming Season 4 Mindfreak right now. If you check with the production office you might get a chance to attend a demonstration live! Or see him in person.

Go to www.lasvegas.com or www.vegas.com NOT hotel.com for information and room reservations.

Since this is your first trip, you want to stay on the Strip but your budget per night is the issue. Wynn and Venetian are the most expensive while Circus Circus and Sahara are less. I would want to stay at Treasure Island which is by the Mirage, across from Venetian and Wynn and Fashion Show mall. Also next to Mirage is Caesars Palace, then Bellageo, across from Bally's and Flamingo. Adjoining Bally's is Paris and next to that is Planet Hollywood. You can walk to all of these easily.

I would see Mystere at Treasure Island, the first - best - and cheapest Cirque de Solei show. Unless you plan on leaving the Strip and 3 days is not enough to really do that and enjoy The Strip, I would walk or use the bus. Taxis are not cheap.

Things to do are join every Players Club for 2/1 and small souvenirs. Ride the inside or outdoor gondola at Venetian, see the Madame Tressau Wax Museum, ride the elevator up the Eifel Tower. Make sure you go to the Shops at Forum in Caesars and see the "free" living statues show. Watch the free volcano at the Mirage after dark and the free pirate show in front of the Treasure Island.

When you are hungry look for a buffet, the best deal over a sit down restaurant or cafe, like the one at Paris or Flamingo.

There is a nightlife in "clubs" after 10 pm. but know it is not cheap to drink there.

See lots to do and never gamble. Enjoy MY city.

Depends what type of time you're looking for...

Palms, Mirage, MGM Grand, and Mandalay Bay are great for meeting people and doing the club and bar scene.

Palms has Little Buddha and 7 Steaks, Mirage has Japonais and Stack, MGM has Fiamma, Craft, Emerils, and a bunch others, and Mandalay Bay (where I work) has Stripsteak, and Border Grill (best Mexican around).

Shows- Depends what you like- Ka, Zumanity, O, are all great Cirque offerings. Love at Mirage by Beatles is great.

Taxi's all the way. It's easy to walk between many properties, and taxis are everywhere. Save the hassle of renting, valet, parking, etc.

Well, all of the hotels you have chosen are reasonably close to eachother and are at the south end of the strip, perhaps that is why you chose them. MGM Grand is one of my favorite hotels, I absolutely love that hotel. The rooms were amazing and comfortable, and most importantly (to me) the rooms didn't smell like smoke. The pool is amazing, the restaurants are great. I have never really seen any celebrities there except for Kurt Thomas and I assuming he was in Vegas because he was traded the day before :) It is the the last stop on the monorail on the south end and quickly connects you to the rest of the strip. New York New York has an amazing casino. I love everything about the ground floor. I have heard the rooms tend to be smaller at this hotel. Mandalay Bay is amazing. One of the Southern most strip hotels with mini monorail connecting to Luxor and Excalibur. The hotel in its entirety is amazing. Good pool. Luxor gives me vertigo, I will probably never stay there. But the clubs are good. LAX is popular for celebrity sitings. You may even see Carrot Top on any given day! : ) My pick: MGM grand!

hotel - cheap one on the strip, like the Sahara.
restaurant - what do you like? There's seafood, steaks, buffets, pizza, and one Burger King
shows - magic (The Amazing Johnathan and World's Greatest Magic are closest to the Sahara.)
rent a car vs taxis - No! Use a taxi to get to the strip, then start walking.
any local things - huh?

Any big hotel on the strip. I love the venetian. The stratosphere and the pairs have the BEST food. I am not big on the shows, but I love to shop there. They have a monorail-type transportation that is way better than sitting in traffic weather you are driving or not, and it goes to most all of the major hotels on the strip.

There is no one size fit all, as far as Vegas is concern.
What I found out is that it's always better to shop around and read each hotels review. I used these tips on my last visit and saved a lot.

Also check priceline.com and name your own price. You might be lucky and get it.

I personally will not rent a car or take a taxi except from the airport to me hotel. There are lots of other inexpensive ways to get around Vegas.

As far as food is concerned, Vegas has the best. Just visit the buffets and seriously pig out.

Save your money and enjoy the free attractions. There is enough to keep you busy for 3 days
