I got into an argument with my roomate and he said that 97,000 dollars was not that much these days. I told him that 99.9% of the world does not make 97,000 a year and he did not believe me. I tried to research this and cannot find proof. Does anyone know where I can find this info? thank you guys...

Put in your income and it tells you how you rank compared to all the people in the world.
$97,000 is in the top 0.67% or richer than 99.33% so you were almost right.

97,000 put s you at about the top 10% in the US. Look at the census bureau web site. Meg's site for the world is correct technicaly, but it isnt that skewed because its only in dollar amounts. It isnt adjusted for purchsing power parity, which is simply how far a dollar goes in a given country. A dollar buys you more in Nigeria then in the US. So in real means of consumption, it isnt that skewed, but it still is realy high. Making 97,000, you are probably still in the tope couple of percent in the world.

Look at the 4'th graph down. It say's $46,326 is the average house hold income for 2005. That's for a house, as in about 4 people. Since the housing boom things have gotten very inflated but 97k is still a lot of money. It could buy a few nice cars or half a house. Couple houses if you live in Texas. Your friend doesn't get a concept of money. Don't know about for the world, but this info is for the US. I think the world is a lot less.

The site is legit. You can tell because it is a .gov.

Did you try the U. S. Census bureau?
They should have that figure.
