“Wonderful gift of the spirit . . . to the world” in the form of People Power I and II."

Philippine Nobel Award, Social Threefolding and the Spiritual Tasks of Nations

- Leadership of the Third Kind
- People Power II and the Philippine Spirit
- Social Threefolding: A Related Philippine Contribution to the World
- Creative Fidelity to the Spirit and Mission of One’s Country

On February 25, 2001, the Philippines received a very unusual global award. It is the first of its kind in the world, as well as the first award given to an entire nation. The Nobel Peace Prize Laureates Foundation (Nobel Peace Foundation) awarded the Philippines for their “wonderful gift of the spirit . . . to the world” in the form of People Power II. The prestigious Center for Global Non-Violence also joined the Nobel Peace Foundation in giving the award as the Philippines celebrated People Power I and II.

In a certain sense, this award is higher than a Nobel Peace Prize since the citation was given by a foundation whose trustees are composed of Nobel Peace Prize winners. The award therefore represents the collective wisdom and combined judgment of global peace luminaries like Nelson Mandela of South Africa, the Dalai Lama of Tibet, Carlos Felipe Ximenes Belo and Jose Ramos-Horta of East Timor and Mikhail Gorbachev of the Soviet Union.

"MANPOWER" (Overseas Filipino Workers)
North America, Europe, Middleast and Asia-Pacific

The term "Global Filipino" is now also being used to refer to a Filipino citizen who lives and works abroad. The performance of the Philippine economy over recent decades, combined with a widespread knowledge of English, a legacy of the Philippines' position as a former United States colony, have made Filipinos one of the most internationally mobile nationalities.

Overseas Filipinos are typically known to be as doctors, nurses, accountants, IT professionals, engineers entertainers, technicians, teachers, military servicemen, students, and domestic helpers.

Revolution. We taught the world that you could revolt and have a better freer life. The French were the first, and though they got push under the Royal boot again, the revolts came again. They spread throughout Europe and into other places.
Revolution was the greatest thing the USA gave to the world.

Edit: To J.S.--I am guessing you are British. True you gave the world a Parliamentary system. Just because the USA gave the world something, does not mean it does not make mistakes. 1. North Korea had Communism imposed on them. The South was free. The North attacked the South and we joined in to help them stay free. Well look at the South now. 2. China had a horrible dictatorship. The Mao started a movement, an army, and won the country. Was it a good thing? No. Even now they are moving away from the Communist Construct. 3. Vietnam. After WW2, Ho Chi Min came to us and asked help in setting up a free Vietnam. Instead, we delivered the French army back into Indo China. The revolution started and this time Ho went to the communist for help and got it. The fault of the whole of Vietnam was a mistake on the part of the USA. I and most of my friends protested to help fight against that horrible war.
Conclusion-The USA gave a gift of the idea of freedom. It does not mean that we did not make mistakes after. To use an old quote---America, right or wrong, and when it is right keep in right, and when it is wrong, make it right.

My country's best contribution to the world is parliamentary democracy.

p.s. I love the answer about the America's "best" contribution to the world as being the revolution - what a joke!

If America's best contribution "and greatest gift" to the world was the revolution - why did America spend 25 years in French Indochina, then Vietnam, a billion dollars (Sorry - I cannot be exact with the number here), and 58,000 lives to DENY the people of Vietnam THEIR revolution?

Communism?

North Korea, China, and Vietnam - they all had their revolutions - but had to fight the Americans for for them!

The greatest thing that America contributed to the world was to be a refuge and safe haven for those seeking freedom from tyrannical governments; which it still does to this day.
