It's fine. I'm in the same predicament, so what I'm doing is making all his food on Sunday night and freezing it for the rest of the week.

Well... you have to look at it this way. The only way to really know what you are putting into your child's body is to grow your own food and puree it yourself. Who has the time? Most people don't...

There are a few risks with the baby food you buy from the store... there are recalls sometimes, preservatives, etc... and how can you be guaranteed that the "organic" food is really organic? You could buy the vegetables, etc and cook and puree them yourself, but how do you know they aren't covered in chemicals either?

Sometimes you just have to go with your gut, your schedule, and your budget... millions of babies eat baby food from a jar everyday. Don't worry about it. Besides, how long will he be eating it anyway? Not long.

Generations of children have been raised on jarred baby food without any dramatic negative effects. Just read the label to make sure what's actually in the food. When you have the time, though, make some homemade food for your baby. It's generally tastier and a bit more healthy.

My daughter is 7 months old and we give her the Gerber 1st stage. If you read the ingredients it's only the fruit/vegetable and water! We all work and it's hard to make the baby's food ourselves. Until she can eat what we eat she will be given "jar" food. If you eat veggies cook some for the baby first!

Commercial baby food is ok, it doesn't generally contain added salt, sugar or preservatives and is very rarely recalled (and remember all foods are occasionally recalled.)

However the BEST thing to do is to never use any pureed food, not even that you make yourself. It is safer and healthier to let baby feed himself. And letting baby have whole foods is far easier than making your own baby food.

Self-feeding prevents a baby from eating before they are physiologically ready to digest it. It prevents chocking. There is also some evidence that it prevents allergies, one theory an unpleasant feel in the mouth is one of the first signs of an allergy and babies may spit out rather than ingest such foods. Also "baby-led weaning" may also prevent fuss eaters, unscientifically my own son will eat everything and all the other moms I know with toddlers and preschoolers that were always allowed to feed themselves are not picky either.

Consider letting your baby have fruit, veggies and even meat that you would be eating anyway, this is very healthy for mom as well. A few slices of apple/pear for baby, and the rest for mom. It also forces you to cook your food with limited salt, sugar, and not eat foods high in preservatives. There is no need to limit herbs and spices, they are not allergenic and breastfed babies in particular enjoy them (as they are used to them from mom's milk)

I'm sure its ok, I have give it to my kids on occasion, I usually puree my own as I feel better about it that way. It's easy to do, cheaper to make, and you can make so much and store it all in the freezer. I don't think they would sell jar food though if it were bad, and most kids are fed that as babes, it is much easier to jar feed then to puree. It's all what you want to do and what you feel comfy doing...

Differnt manufacturers of infant nutrition shouldn't make a distinction. If first meals or meals with basically one ingrediant. in case you get a mix then double examine your ingrediant checklist and ensure which you infant has tried all those meals. i'm with a good number of the others. I consistently offered what replaced into on sale or what I had a chit for.

They're all right, and people's kids seem to get on OK on them. I was working when mine were babies, but they still mainly had home-made.

I used to batch-cook both for them and us on a Sunday afternoon, and put everything in the freezer. (I have 2 kids, 17mo apart). You can freeze pureed fruit and veg to use on their own or to put in other things using ice-cube trays and then put the cubes into a freezer bag.

The major advantage was that my kids were never picky eaters, and progressed onto ordinary family meals painlessly, since they were already used to having what we were having.

Both my kids used the jar stuff and they are just fine. I mean, obviously fresh food would be best, but you can't stres yourself out over it all the time. Just relax and use the jar food. Baby will be just fine.
