The problem is, my friend who I play tennis with is cocky about himself and its annoying. He makes little comments and most times I dont know if he knows he's being arrogant, he doesn't understand how to respect players and the game.
We've played about 20 games, and he has won about 14 of them. He won the last 2 games and keeps mentioning how "great them games were" and the "excellent rallies we had" and he is also in a happy positive mood during the game. But what really annoys me is that when he is losing, he's in a bad mood and doesnt mention the game. As for me, losing or not, I contain how I feel and dont always say "YES" all the time. The really sad thing is I dont think he knows why people find him annoying.
So finally, we're 17, I'm 6" and he is smaller at 5"5, we'ave a similar style of play, playing from baseline. We're both quite consistant but I think he has more of it than me, he likes doing drop shots now and again. Do you have and tips to beat him?
Thanks for reading.

practice working on more consistency and placement. when u play, u can hit a ball out wide and hit the ball to the other side of the court. u can try different strategies while playing with him. try serve and volleys and go up to the net more. this will create more angles for u to hit. since ur 6ft it'll be difficult to lob the ball over u. u can always try drops shot and run up to the net.

both of you are baseliners right, so then every so often youshould come in of a good approach shot i.e low backhand slice, forehand out wide and surprise him with a sharp volley from a weak return shot.
or play a drop volley to get him away from the baseline, make him come in to get it and then lob him(because he is short) after he has gon for the dropshot.
vary your game dont always play at the baseline becasue he does, volleying can help you win cheaper points then from the baseline. tip:to practise your volleys find a wall and keep the ball from touching the ground using a volley technique.

You're taller than he is. Work on your first serve so you don't have to mess with rallies to win points. What worked for me was to use a heavy raquet but you have to have good lower arm and wrist strength to use one. I used to use a wooden raquet and used the raquet with a tennis raquet press on it and use that as a lower arm and wrist exercise aid. (Somebody is bound to take this the wrong way and make remarks :-( ) When you are winning successive points and the other guy is looking depressed don't back off with sympathy just to make it a game, go for it and maybe Mr Smug might learn a lesson when he gets his clock cleaned.

You have to take action. Set a date with him to play one on one and end it all from there to see whos the better player. Tell him whether its raining or injured, you have to play. both agree maybe you can even make a contract. then the night before your match, handicap him by batting his ankle or knee (your choice) while he's sleeping. Obviously don't make yourself known. Then on the match he still has to play and this will give you your advantage.
And if you still lose, then you mind as well give up tennis you sack of wine.

Vary your speed, sometimes fast, sometimes slow, sometimes fast in a row.,Vary your placement of the Ball around the court you can beat a good player.
Also take your time to observe your opponent. Watch for his Weakness, bad Habits, habits, strengths and capitalize on them.
By applying these few concepts you will vastly improve your game.

Hes a SORE LOSER. Slap hisass in the head, I hate people who act all mad when they lose, those idiots, dont they think about how we feel when we lose. Do the same thing he does when you win, go on and on and on about the game, he will notice, bring it up, and then tell him that hes doing the exect same thing. Its a good way of letting him know what hes doing.

Do some warm ups....and basically just practice. Hit the ball, work on your speed, gradually increase your reaction time to the balls.
