I am going to London in a month. I will probably leave from LAX but what is the best airport in London, ones that are close to the city? Also, what is the most inexpensive airport?

Heathrow airport is closer to London, you can take London underground in the airport station to London dowtown.

City Airport is the closest to the city, but you would have to fly to a city in Europe and connect. The runways are too short for large airplanes from the US. Don't bother.

Heathrow, Gatwick, and Stansted all have flights from the U.S. Stansted is the smallest and least congested but has the fewest flights by far. Most transatlantic flights go to Heathrow with Gatwick being second.

If you're planning to go nonstop from LA, you'll end up at Heathrow. It's the most congested airport, but it has the most flights. There is an Underground stop there plus train service to Paddington Station, so it is easy to get into the city.

Gatwick has train service to Victoria Station if you end up there. It is also easy to get to the city from there. Gatwick is easier to navigate than Heathrow because it has only two terminals. However, I wouldn't take a less convenient flight just for that.

There is no "cheapest" airport. Fares are not set by airport. They're set by airline. Choose the most direct and least expensive flight and don't worry about whether it lands at Heathrow or Gatwick.

Either Heathrow or Gatwick. Heathrow is the larger and busier of the two. Both serve London. I'm not sure what you mean by "inexpensive" airport since almost anything in an airport isn't gong to be cheap.

I fly regularly from Edinburgh to London and my airport of choice is always Heathrow due to the Underground link which is very frequent and takes you right through the centre of London. The other London Airports have good transport links to the city also but from experience, LHR works best for me.

The closest airport to London is City. The others are a good few miles, but there are good train and bus links. Luton and Stanstead are the farthest out, and Heathrow is probably a tad closer that Gatwick.
