A Masai cocktail. The Masai tribe in Kenya either like you or they don't - and you hope it is the former. When I lived there, they decided that they liked me because I used to throw cookies out of the car window to keep the apes off my car (they love to go for a ride and scratch your paintwork!), and I later found out that the Masai were picking up what the apes left behind cookie wise. The Masai loved "my" cookies, and invited me to their camp. (Its the ultimate insult to refuse and you are putting your life in jeopardy if you do so). So I went. They gave me this drink - from a gourd - and I later found out that it was blood, milk and urine from their cattle! (That's life in the fast lane!) I should add that these people are gorgeous - healthy and have perfect bodies! CJ

When I was a young'un, I ate ketchup on graham crackers. Not honey grahams, the original. I'm sure some of you must remember those.
Sometimes for a snack, I'd make a "leftover" sandwich from whatever was in the corner cupboard after a home-cooked meal. I remember a mashed potato, soup beans, and beef sandwich once. Others, I can't remember.
Onions with toast and jelly.
I know I'm really weird. I complained once because my grandmother had forgotten to add the cod liver oil to my orange juice. I actually liked it. :o)

I'm not even sure of what all I've eaten! When we were in China, most of the time we didn't have a clue what we were eating, but absolutely everything was incredibly delicious! In one restaurant that had menu items in English, it listed things like "Fish lips". I thought, no wonder everyone here is so slender! I love food. I've had kangaroo in Australia - yummy! I ate roasted caterpillars, fried grasshoppers, and cockroaches when I was a kid, just to prove how "cool" I was.

Well I don't think anything I have ever eaten is weird, but a lot of people think they are. Sweetbreads, Escargot, Buffalo, Antelope, Bear, Elk, Venison, and Crawdads. Oh yes, Chicken Gizzards and hearts. I love Pig's Feet and Noodles. Beef Tongue and Lamb Tongues are okay.
I was raised on southern cooking. Lived and hunted in Colo. for a while too.

The first time was in Viet Nam. I found a place that sold hamburgers. I told my friend, who every pay day I took to the GRAND HOTEL in Vung Tau for a buffalo steak dinner about it. She went with me after I explained what a hamburger was. She said it wasn't cow or pig. She said, "I think dog."
Next, I took her and her cousin to get some ice cream. There were little red, what I thought were berries, in the ice cream. When I said the word for berries, her brother shook his head no and pointed to a tree and made a crawling motion with his finger...not sure what it was, but I thought it might have been a worm of some type.
I didn't eat this, but when we were stationed in Sardinia (island off the west coast of Italy...submarine repair ship/facility base) my son had a Sardinian friend. They would go and pick up sea urchins (round black balls with spines), crack them open and suck out the animal inside...raw. And this guy won't go near mayonnaise!
In Japan, the father of a friend of ours went fishing and made an ink print of a fish he caught. We ate the fish raw. My son was eating what looked like some type of intestines dipped in soy sauce. This was on New Year's day.
I ate a lot of things in different countries that I had no idea what I was eating.
Also, we went to a festival in our town, Santa Teresa di Gallura in Sardinia. We had some stew and when I asked what the chewy meat was...TRIPE...cow belly.
I was working with the Taiwan Navy and on Chinese New Years we had a big feast. There was a cut of meat at our table and I asked the supply officer what it was. He said pork. So, I cut a big slab...it was fatty. I asked what kind of pork it was...he said BELLY.
At the movies in Yokohama, Japan...dried octopus or squid tenticles (can't remember which, it was in the early '70s).

I enjoyed the reindeer we had on vacation. I tried frog legs before too. Not bad. Not enough meet though.
My weirdest thing....hmmmmmm...I donnoh. In Hawaii we eat raw cow liver. There's a certain way to clean it till it doesn't look like liver at all.
I love it, but didn't know it was cow liver till I was 18. I thought is was some kind of sea urchin. ha ha ha..

Hi!
In my days in college, we were all a little bit nuts! We all got together on Friday nights and spread the cheer around. Well this one Friday...all the folks that were there put a dollar in the kitty to eat a LIZARD!!! Well the pot got up to 35 bucks. I was broke and quite a bit tippy.....I told everyone I would bite it's head off if everyone doubled their bet....sure enough, I had 70 buckaroos and bit the head off of this poor little lizard!
It wiggled all the way down!!! I think it's mouth was opening and shutting still!! I could feel the lizards tongue get real long when I bit it's head off! Needless to say, barfed it back up in about 15 minutes! What a site that was!!!!

Frog's legs taste like very tender chicken and look like a little fried chicken leg -- delicious. I adore octopus and squid. The oddest real food I've eaten is moose brain and nose and beaver tail. My mother-in-law said that was always her secret for a guaranteed moist moose roast -- lay a beaver tail over it to add fat.
My weirdest thing was my 2nd grade craving for white school paste (not glue) on the yellow "arithmetic paper" we used to get in school. Spread it on, roll it up tight, and chew on it. I must have been lacking in some nutrient!

Deep fried grasshoppers and chocolate covered ants...[for REAL! - my uncle was a strange man!]
Also, once I went to a very authentic Asian restaurant and a member of our group asked if he could order for all of us in communal style and we agreed. The meal was wonderful but I had the nerve to ask what several ingredients were....NOTE: NEVER DO THAT - What I heard was enough to make me become bulimic!...Most were various forms of fungus and some were insects! and others were veggies 'aged' in bovine doo doo.
