In the ten minutes I was in the bathroom, my 4-year old managed to take the gate down, get in the kitchen sink, remove a steak knife, and stab two holes in my brand new microfiber couch. We are not made of money, and this furniture was a splurge for our new house. We cannot afford to get it fixed. Is there a way to fix this myself before they get worse? I am not a happy mommy.

sounds like you need to learn how to manage your child first or you are going to have a lot more problems with him.
With your couch you can probably put a piece of double sided tape inside the rips and try pressing them together. It won't be perfect but at least you won't have a hole that the kid can pull the stuffing from. Try calling the place you purchased it from perhaps they can make a suggestion or maybe they will be nice for Xmas if you cry a lot, tell them how poor you are and they may replace it. Good luck.
