Hey there, stretch marks can occur from weight gain OR rapid weight loss. Chances are if you lose weight in a healthy, slow manner, not only will you have an easier time keeping it off, I cannot see them getting worse. There are some good products out there these days for lightening stretch marks if they are still red/purple. Look in the lotion/moisterizer aisle at your pharmacy. I had severe stretch marks after I became really ill as young teen and lost a lot of weight very quickly. I was lucky enough to see a dermatologist when it was all over who prescribed me a vitamin A acid cream. It is usually prescribed for wrinkles, but it lightened mine up a ton! If you have the financial means, and the over the counters dont work, its always an option. Best of luck, and please lose weight sensibly! Cheers

The stretch marks are from weight gain, not loss. They occur when the underlying tissues of the skin aren't able able to stretch enough to accommodate the increased stretching by fat growth; muscle growth, height increase, pregnancy. When the connective tissues underneath the skin break they cause red/ purple lines under the skin that scar and create the stretch marks. They are more noticeable when you loose weight.

It depends how much weight you've lost. If it's alot, then yes you can get stretch marks. The skin was stretched out before you lost the weight and it doesn't always shrink back.

yes. stretch marks are simply that - marks caused by the skin stretching. So, when weight is gained & the skin is stretched, then weight is lost, the skin may shrink back down, but the result is stretch marks. Use lots of cocoa butter to minimize the markings.

Yes, if you lose weight quite quickly, or without toning up the muscles, you get stretch marks. I have them on my arms at the top (bingo wing area ha ha) from when I lost a lot of weight very quickly

I got stretch marks because I lost a significant amount of weight really fast by starving myself. 30 pound in just one month. Now if you lose wight the right way by exercising and eating less, might help.
