Generally most Gangs are from the bottom strata of American society. The neighborhoods are often racially segregated and it is amazing how this can can change from block to block. I have lived in an area of Long Beach, California where there were 3 or 4 different gangs in the same area. Chicano, Vietnamese and Blacks. Very confusing and quite dangerous!
