why are some firefighter jackets black and others yellow?

are there benefits? If so what are they? Why do they make the different colors? Are there different types of colors that relate to a certain type of jacket?

Several reasons.
1-Manufacturer,some make certain color "turn out gear"
2- individual department choices.

Typically it's traditional. The only advantage to wearing a black over the yellow or tan is the black hides the dirt better.
