It's an interesting name. It has a lovely meaning, and best of all it isn't really that common, which is great. It's a classic, strong and masculine name, and since it's special to you and your husband, you should go for it.
Personally, I wouldn't name my child that, but it's not bad. I would rather name my boy Maynard than Riley, that's for sure :)
If you love it, go for it, but you might want to pair it with a more common name, like Maynard Jacob or Maynard Aidan or Maynard James is nice too.
Gratz on your baby boy!

alright. well you said honestly. and honestly, well, i dont like it. James is a nice name, and you can have a bunch of nicknames with it also. of course, i've never heard of Maynard, so i cant say that its easy to make fun of or anything, but you should definitely take all types of possibilities into account when naming a child. think about wat the name means and how your child might grow up with that name. names are very delicate things and sometimes tend to decide peoples fates, along with other factors. in any case, i say look at all things bad and good with the name Maynard and come to a decision with your husband. :) .
I wish you and your husband, along with your baby boy happy holidays and best wishes.

I LOVE IT!!!!!! thats exactly who I thought of when I read it.
Its unique & a very strong name. Trust me in school when Maynard is called He will be the only one to answer. I love names that are not common & the child can be known by their first name. Its not for some but great for those who like different & not old or common names like myself.
My sons are
Lachlan Sebastian Kilbourne
Wyatt Beckham Sawyer
My husband wants another to name Walker Hudson.
Stick with it, its a great name. Its better then what Mayhem means!! lol

Look up Maynard G. Krebs. People over 50 will remember that when they hear the name.

Sorry but to me it screams geek! It is fine as a surname but doesn't roll off the tongue easy to call somebody that. James and Keenan are great names though!
If you really love it maybe it could be a middle name?

I have mixed emotions while it is a unique name I am not sure it has a good yell out the back door sound, it makes me giggle a little. Try it and see what you think if that was what you heard when it was time to come in from outside. I call it the back door test. But you got to yell it or it won't work.

Now a days, people are naming their children all kinds of unique names. Personally, I don't like it but if you do, go for it. Just always consider what other children will think when he goes to school. Kids have a way of finding the littlest thing to make fun of somebody for.
Good Luck and I hope that you guys find the right name for your little one!!!

If you want to express your creative side, buy a box of coloring pencils. If you want to give your child a name he will feel comfortable with, and not self-concious and resentful about, give him a normal name.
Maynard may once have meant what you have read it meant, but it doesn't any more. These days it is just a name, and normally one given because there is a tradition in the family of people with that name. To introduce it from nowhere into your family seems pretentious.
