Mitsubishi has gotten a lot better over the years. They had some issues in the mid 90's (especially with oil seal leaks), but quality has improved. Though they aren't at the same standards of Honda and Toyota, but Mitsubishi does make pretty reliable cars these days.

And Ford owns 30% of Mazda, not Mitsubishi.

Mitsubishi and Ford have no connection what so ever. Mitsubishi has previously teamed up with Dodge to create Diamond Star Motors or DSM. They teamed up, using Mitsubishi motors in both Mitsu and Dodge vehicles. Dodge has a variety of cars with Mitsu motors like the, Talon, Laser,Stealth, Avenger, and Stratus. Most newer Dodge vehicles have an SXT badge which signifies the use of Mitsu motors. I think this was a good idea because Dodge has never made any good reliable cars since the early 70's.

No, they aren't. I have had 2 Mitsubishi's (both Eclipses), and neither one of them ever broke down. Mitsubishi is owned by Chrysler (or whoever just bought them out...), so I don't know where he is getting the Ford comparison from. Oh, and they are primarily build in the midwest, with only engine components being Japanese. Anyway, I love my Eclipses, and I hope that you enjoy yours! Happy driving!

no. Mazda is a Japanese version of Ford, Ford owns 25% of Mazda. I own a Mitsu, OZ Rally. It's a very reliable car, has 100,000 miles on it now and it still runs like new(no kidding here). Best backed warranty (100,000 miles). What's the warranty for a Honda or a Toyota? 50,000 miles I think. You pay extra dough for a Honda's badge or a Toyota's badge. Eclipse is a sporty and nice looking car, your friend is jealous of you, I would be 'cause I own a cheaper model of Mitsu.

My Eagle Talon (Which is a mitsubishi, is really reliable, and no it has nothing to do with ford) but Diamond Star Motors was Mitsubishi and Chrysler (Dodge) but Chrysler is more specific and more known for DSM.

the mitsubishis are reliable if you have a 2nd gen eclipse and its a manual just make sure you have a six bolt block bec. if its 7 you prone to crank walk but other than that even the none turbos that have the dodge motor(420a) are reliable
