It really depends on the person.
I am a junior in high school right now, and I honestly could care less about a ring. It just doesn't seem worth the price. I could spend that money on something more important (college fund!!!). Because if you need memorabilia, you've got a diploma, a cap and gown, and pictures! I'd rather get some other present that will have a practical use for a long time. Maybe an iPod or gift card to get a new college wardrobe. Or something else you know she'd love.
But some people do really need them, I guess. So it just depends on the person.

It was important to me at the time (I was scheduled to graduate in the year 2000), but it wasn't a life or death situation. The ring company distributed the catalogs and order forms my junior year. The cheapest ring in that catalog was over 200 dollars! My mom and I went to Walmart and ordered one. They have all of the options as the ones sold through the school, but are half the price. I think my mom paid under 100 dollars for mine (around 80, if I remember correctly.)
It's funny, because I didn't graduate. I dropped out halfway through my senior year and I have NO clue where that ring went. Seems like once I left school, the ring disappeared.

I graduated in 1999 and my mother gave me my ring as my graduation gift. My mother felt like I deserved it. It was a very nice thought and I still wear it. I love it it means so much to me. Yrs later I graduated from Syracuse state and didn't bother to get a ring. It really depends on the person it symbolizes an achievement the first one in many more to come. high school is the hardest time for adolescents with all the prier pressure and the drop outs I just think we have to keep them motivated to continue their school, goals and achievements.

They are soooo expensive!!! I just graduated class of '07 and i didn't get one. I though it was a waste of money. At my school you usually got them in your junior or senior year.
I didn't know they made cheap ones..... I might have gotten one then, but I think the cheapest in my magazine was around $300 and went into the $2000 range.
It is sentimental, but how many people wear them later in life? I personally would want something else.
I have my cap and gown and tassels.... that is all i need for remembrance.

When I was in high school the kids got them as mid or late JR year sometimes the start of senior year. I never got one and to be honest I’m not sorry I didn’t. For one I didn’t want to spend all that money. Most people who get hs rings don’t wear them much after they get out of high school. My own brother got one and I don’t know if he even knows where it is now.
I have a diploma, year tassel that went on the hat's and 4 year books to me that was enough of remembrance of high school.

Actually, You feel kinda left out if you dont get one.
But here's the thing. I'll be going to my 10 year reunion in like, 4 months....
I wore my ring for like a year....then ditched it cuz, by college...it's like...no one cares.
It's personal preference. Don't be pressured in to getting one though.
What i think was cool, was my sister wanted her parents to buy her a "normal" ring instead that she could wear no matter where she went or how old she got. She got this beautiful dark blue semi-precious stone with diamonds around it...it's georgeous. I wish I had done that.
Her ring represents her years and accomplishments in high school, but doesn't have to be so restricting.

Well I'm a senior and no, I don't want one. You won't wear it after you graduate. My parents are going to get me a nice ring to symbolize this stage in my life, but I'll be able to wear it after high school still.

I did not get mine until I was a senior. I did not have it long. It was stolen from me about 2 years after I graduated. I did wear it a bit but I would not wear it now. However, I am not really a jewelry person anyway.

I have had my ring sense 10th grade, i never take it off (unless its being cleaned) its my most prized posession. If i receved mine as a senior i would have worn it all through collage too, and even though i got mine in 10th i still plan on wearing it for a very long time

Personally, I don't want one. I think they are a waste of money. It depends on the person though, if she is really involved in her school and loves high school then she might like it.
