It's really pretty.

It's short, simple and sweet, but still a very classic name. It's really lovely and sounds like the perfect name for any girl. I like it spelt this way better than "Leah" (which is pronouced the same way). A name you may like would be Liana (pronouced Lee-an-na), and you could call her Lia for short.

I think it's a really pretty name, and I say go for it!! Gratz on your baby!

Unless you are Italian, and therefore have good reason for using "Lia" rather than traditional Leah, I find this particular form tends to come across as a bit insubstantial and informal, to be honest. Like it should be a shortening of Amelia, Emilia, Adelia, Cecilia, Dahlia, Cordelia, Natalia, Julia or one of the many other names ending in -lia.

And frankly, if any such name happens to appeal, it seems a perfect opportunity to give her TWO names you love -- Amelia (for instance) and the nickname Lia. ;) Just a thought!

The only thing is the spelling. A non-traditional spelling means you can't get stuff with your name on it. My granddaughter's name is Destyni. I don't really like the name in the first place, but the funky spelling really bugs me. Her mother's mother told her to get it formally changed because it's awful. But the point is, I can find little ornaments with the boys' names on them, but not this weird spelling. My sister's middle name is Lea, and there's nothing with that on it either, but Leah is very classy.

I like it as a nickname but it looks too insubstantial to stand on its own. Cecilia and Amelia come to mind for longer forms.
