Community service, probation (probably 3 - 5 years) and a big fine and a major scolding from the judge!
After you finish your probation, and pay your fine - you can ask for an expungement, which removes the misdemeanor from your record, make sure you take care of it!

This is a felony, and you probably get probation for upwards to 5 years. The problem is the felony never goes away, it will be with you the rest of your life. Some limits on what you may be able to do later on in life.

The reason doesn't really make a difference. Everyone who steals has a reason.

Once the case goes to court, the AP people at your company have no say about what level it is prosecuted at. If stealing something worth $800 is a felony, than it is, regardless of whether you have ever been caught stealing before or not.

Get a lawyer, you'll need one.

I would think that you were already charged with a felony, it's beyond the control of the assets protection personnel. They turned you in and they pressed charges. About all you can do is plea bargain for a misdemeanor, restitution and probation.

The AP lied she has no power over the charges thats Police and DA. What you need is a criminal defense Attorney. If you cannot afford one request one at your court date and either enter no plea or not guilty. Talk to your Attorney about reduction of charges and even possible diversion

Plead guilty, return the goods (if you can ) and appeal to the sitting judge to reduce the fine with giving the reasons that you can't afford to pay for the fine.
