I was a life guard while in high school so I learned how long, horrible, and painful drowning can be so I don't understand how someone could drown without waking up. Thanks in advance!

Not if they were sober. They would wake up

It has happened in the history of humankind that normal, healthy, sober people drown this way.

It is more common, however, to drown in a bathtub when another person is holding your head under water because you did not pay a gambling debt, you consumed all of the illicit merchandise entrusted to you, or you slept with the wrong person.

The best way to avoid the self-drowning hazard is to hold a plugged-in hair dryer in your hand, raised upright. If you drift off, your arm will fall and the appliance will come closer and closer to the water.

Before you could possibly drown, the hair dryer will plunge into the water and you will be electrocuted, avoiding the risk of a "long, horrible and painful drowning."

You can drown in as little as a tablespoon of water. If someone was really tired, or drunk they probably wouldn't wake up. The reason you drown is because your brain forces your body to try and take in oxygen but you end up inhaling the water. Hope this helps!!

A person can only suffocate or drown while asleep if he has taken drugs or passed out from alcohol. A normal alert person will wake up automatically if he can't breath. Of course, while in the bath, if some water goes down the respiratory passage, the person may wake up but choke anyway.

I fall asleep in the bathtub all the time, but I am real fat, and it would be impossible for me to get my head underwater, even in a huge garden tub I have. And, eventually, I get cold, and have to run the hot water a bit, and warm up, and then fall asleep all over again. What joy!
