I'm in college ad I've been messing up lately. I have a tough major but I still think thats no excuse for my lack of progress. I've messed up in at least one class each semester. I was happy to have a decent gpa but now that seems to be going down. I've always been optimistic, but it feels as though I'm letting down everyone around me, all those people that believed in me. I feel like I failed everybody. Maybe I'm just over reacting or just have too high expectations for myself, I guess what gets me is that I did try my best in a lot of aspects of school, time management, and so on but to no avail. I feel like giving up, but I never will, like the poem goes Stick to the fight when you're hardest hit, it's when things seem worst that you must not quit. I'm not really looking for sympathy, but I'd like some advice or wise words for anybody thats been in my situation.

This is really normal. Probubly 90% of students feel just like this. What I did, was cut back my hrs. Instead of taking 18 , i took a semester with 15 credit hrs. It worked out because I wasn't struggeling in all classes, I did better and was able to dedicate myself more until I got used to it and felt I could take on a bigger load. I also took a coupe summer classes so I was able to to stay away from the 21 crdit hrs. etc.. Your not failing anyone. Your family will love you no matter even if you made F's you are loved unconditionally.

I wouldn't sweat the grades so much unless you are looking to go to graduate school or they are extremely important in landing that first job.

If your "messing up", which is vague, stop doing it, dah. I screwed up many times in college and it was no mystery to me then and now what I was doing wrong.

Many very successful people in life were so so college students ... a couple come to mind: George W. Bush, Dwight Eisenhower, General George Custer, Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein ... it's a very long list.

I've noticed in life that it is often the average grade college student who later makes it much bigger in life rather than the high GPA ones. They have other strong personal attributes that make them successful ... personality, amity, flair, drive, empathy ...

I was an B grade college student ... also managed an average grade B in graduate school. I wipe the floor with my colleagues brains who had outrageously high GPA's. Not bragging ... it's a fact and all my colleagues agree.

Stop "messing up", possibly don't sweat the grades so much and hone your other skills while in college. Don't even think of dropping out. Stick it through to a diploma. IMHO

It almost seems like you have too much wrapped up in other peoples' expectations. "Letting down everyone around me" is a waste of thought. You need to focus on what an education means to your life, how it will make you a stronger person. In the worst case scenario remember that C's get degrees and just tough it out. (We both know that you can do better than that though.)

I think EVERYONE has been in that situation occasionally. Life just isn't a smooth progression, and sometimes it feels like you aren't making any progress, then you suddenly zoom ahead. It doesn't hurt to get help from others - even if you think you are doing your best with things like time management, you may not be approaching it as effectively as you could. Also, I would try to get some help at your counseling center before your mild depression turns into something worse, because it tends to be vicious cycle.

No do not give up, I honestly feel like when i mess up i am letting down everyone too.. But if you quit You wouldn't let anyone but yourself down. I am now one of the people that believe in you. I dont know you, you dont know me.. But what i do know as a fact is No one in my family except for me " I'm a Senior in high school" wanting to go to collage, My mom did, But she did it to get self confidence.. So once she went for a while she dropped out just to say she went! That's wrong, when people ask you about if you ever went to collage you want to be able to answer Masters degree and nothing less. So just sleep very well, try, I know you have but just think, Big house, family, nice cars. :) lol that's my ambition for me wanting to go to collage. I really hope that helped. I know i havent been in your situation, But life requires a lot of the same type of deal in many other areas.

You are welcome to e-mail me, id really like to help you out. And give you some words of ambition when you need it.

Everybody makes mistakes and as long as you get a C in every class, you graduate. I think the best answer would be to just take a semester off to clear your head if you feel too much pressure right now. If you don't feel like taking a semester off, find a study buddy, they always help me out.

I've done the same thing for last 2 semesters. Even got dropped from one this semester. You just gotta put it behind you and do better next time. You can't do anything about your gpa but try to bring it back up. At least you're in college.

As much as you feel like pounding your fists on the wall, don't. Keep a journal and let out your frustrations. Maybe drop a course if it helps. You might want to take some time off if it's necessary to clear your head. Maybe go visit some relatives, have a vacation and get a part-time job.

hey new year new attitude!! don't be down about yourself..school is hard! just look ahead at 2008 as an opportunity to start fresh and new. look into taking those classes that you did not do too well in and take them again..or even better, approach those professors and ask they would consider giving you the opportunity to complete an extra assignment for a better grade. i had a college professor allow me to write an essay a year later and she changed my grade from a D to a B- based on how hard i worked on that paper. GOOD LUCK!!
