I have worked as a probation officer for 13 years and find I am no longer enjoying my work and want to do something completely different even though I do not have any training in this particular field. I would like to rent Summer sporting equipment on a beach somewhere.

No, not at all. Nobody is taking a gun to your head and telling you to stay in your job. However, you should figure out how you are going to earn income during retirement.

After 13 years, you may already be vested anyway, though not as good as you would be if you retired through the job.

If it's not going to cause economic devastation to anyone, do what makes you happy. Just make sure you do your homework before giving up a job that should pay well and have decent benefits. Whenever I hear people want a job connected with the beach, I am concerned they really hope that's relaxing and have assumed it's easier to achieve than it is in reality.

If you check it all out and can swing it--go for it. If not, then maybe something else will appeal to you more than probation work.

Good luck!

No, it is not wrong, but you also have to be realistic....do you think you can make a decent living doing that? What about start-up expenses?

Have you thought of transferring to another department within the government that you are also qualified for? Or a different position that you may enjoy?

Or why don't you try going part-time with your current job and doing that other job you think you might enjoy part-time?

Wouldn't we all like to sit on a beach somewhere offering cheap sporting equipment for rent whilst sipping on a tequilla sunrise?? I think we would!

However, despite how many offenders the service fails to assist in rehabilitation, this job pays the bills and secures your future... so stick with it.

When quitting time comes around at the end of the day, do you want to say, " It's about time" or, "What, already!"
For the rest of your days on which you have to work, that's a lot of time to either be endured or enjoyed.

Now, what was your question?????????
