If Mattise is for a boy, tell her that everyone will think that he is a girl. People will also think that he is gay later in life (a friend of mine has had this experience). Mattise is very pretty for a girl. It reminds me of a flower. Great girl's name. It sounds like a really pretty girl.
If Mattise is a boy, maybe go with Henri- Mattise's first name.

Mozart isn't good for a boy or a girl. He's dead. It's like naming your child after a president, only all of them had names that are still used today. Mozart will be made fun of a lot and probably will hate classical music. Remind her that people who have unusual names often legally change them later in life, and even as a child he might go by his middle name.
If Mozart is a boy, Amadeus is a better name- Mozart's first name. Mozart could also be a girl- Amadea.

How about Diego after Diego Rivera, a Mexican painter instead of Mozart, if she has to go with unusual artist names?

People with complicated or unusual names are much more likely to change their names in later life.

Or at least tell her not to name her children names with the same first letter. They won't be seen as individuals until they are adults and people only know one of them. It's hard enough to get people to see you as individuals being a twin. Two of my close friends are Shelley and Saylea. They're both called "Shaley" by a lot of people.
If the twins are of different gender it won't be quite as bad. People have more trouble mixing a boy and a girl up once they're older then two.

I think they're rather extreme choices for first names.

Neither Henri Matisse nor Wolfgang Mozart are simple figures. Their lives have been explored and chronicled again and again. It's quite likely that this will continue throughout the children's lifetimes. I'm not sure how a child would feel about having the name Mozart after seeing the biopic "Amadeus," for example.

I'm not even sure if the pairing makes sense. Matisse and Picasso were good friends; but Matisse and Mozart weren't even contemporaries, nor do I think of Mozart's works when I see a Matisse painting.

Ultimately, I think my biggest hesitation is that it isn't very subtle. And while your sis might hope to show that she is a person of culture and learning with this choice, I rather think that it demonstrates the opposite.

Oh boy! I have actually seen the name Matisse in the personal notices for baby births! Tragic, isn't it? Mozart is far worse. If she does call her twins that hopefully they will turn into artistic geniuses as there can't be much going for kids with names like that.

Matisse would be ok for a girl, although I'm not crazy about it. Mozart, nope. No way. Somebody mentioned they'd be good names for dogs, and that's about right. I see Mozart as a big old weimaraner .

Tell her that if she cares about those children, and wants them to have happy, popular, teasingless lives, she needs to think of something else. Mozart and Matisse are cool names, but those are also the sorts of names that kids get relentlessly teased for. Just come straight out and tell her the truth.

I don't think there is anything wrong with Matisse - assuming it would be a girl people would probably just call her "Mattie". If it's a boy he'll be called "Matt". I actually kind of like it. It's unique but not "stupid unique".

Mozart is another story, though.

As for being picked on, well, that depends. If a kid wants to pick on another kid, they'll find something other than their name to pick on if they really want to. Speaking from experience, having a normal name doesn't save a kid from bullying.

Good grief. Maybe it's just the extra hormones. Parents could take a good look at what the name will do to the child when he/she goes to school. Kids don't like to stand out in a strange way and having an odd name will only make life difficult. Some parents may say that others need to be more accepting of people, but.......people will be people and those kids will be teased. It may affect them not only in school, but in getting a good job. I'm sure your sister could still be creative but come up with more suitable names.

Tell her how creul childern can be, and those names won't work in the long term, like if they become CEO's, or MD's. I wouldn't go to doctor Mozart. Maybe purchase her a book of names or look online with her and see if you can't sell her on other names. But in the end they are her kids and it's her decision, later when the kids are schoolage give them a nicknames they can use, or sell her on middle names they can use. Good Luck

No matter what don't let her do it. Tell you don't like it but its her choice and then keep giving her new ideas of better names and hopefully, she change her mind. And then, when your old and gray, she'll thank you.
