Would it have helped or hurt his chances in 1960?

It took three ballots to decide on Kefauver so presumably he was close.

According to the article that I read it would most likely have hurt his chances because he would have been associated with a losing candidate.

It makes sense to me. I mean who would pick Joe Lieberman for President now?

He was as close as any other ambitious democrat, such as Hubert Humphrey. I think the jury is out as to whether it would have helped or hurt his presidential electability. After all Franklin Roosevelt was a losing vice presidential candidate in the 20s, and I hear he did all right a few years later.......

I would depend on what he did as a VP whether it would hurt his chances or not.
