dosent that sound like another number they just picked out of the air, i feel its more like maybe 10 maybe 12 million with only about 2/3 coming from over the boarder and they other 1/3 staying when the visa's run out .

while enforcing the laws is the best way to solve the problem. wouldnt actually having a acurate disscustion be helpful also.

this is the largest militarized boarder with out a declaired war, and the boarder patrol is actually keeping more people in the country by stopping them from returning back to mexico during the off seasons, as they have done over the last century.

from the house of reps own site , as you see its far less than the million a year tv is telling you

INS conservatively estimates a net increase in resident illegal aliens each year at 275,000; of that number, more than 100,000 are net new visa violators annually. The steady increase in the resident illegal population should not be surprising: The INS enforcement stance is focused almost exclusively on removing recidivist border violators at ports of entry and on criminal aliens following release from punitive imprisonment.

and that pretty much breaks down to the 2/3 illegals from crossing , and one third from exspired visa's

In addition, at the time of our review, the illegal alien population in this country was estimated by INS to be growing by approximately 275,000 each year, and 125,000 were nonimmigrant overstays. I note that INS has more recently estimated that these numbers may have dropped a bit

Oh sure. I believe the government knows there are 20 million illegals in this country. They also know all about the nuclear/chemical weapons programs in top secret labs in Iran & Iraq; they know that every person they stuck in Guantanamo definitely was a terrorist conspirator; they know what is and isn't torture; they know how to competently manage things like social security retirement programs; and they pretty much know how to best manage the lives of all the US citizens. They know everything .. well with a few teeny exceptions, like, how to balance a budget, the location of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade when they "accidentally" bombed it, where the $32M dollars went for the Iraqi base that was never built .... OK, I better stop here.

Seriously, no, these idiots just pulled a number out of their a$$es and fed it to the public, just like all the other crap that they stick on the news. There are no census forms given to the population of illegals. They have an agenda, and this b.s. number in some manner is supposed to promote it.

Mr. Dude,

I have had several answer my questions when I asked if there were 40-60 million here that we might make "instant Americans". This people explained that the number they said were here before when Reagan gave amnesty was 3 TIMES more than they thought.

Let's do the math 12-15 million equals 36-45 million. IN that book by Dick Morris, Outrage he has the documented sources. He states that on the southern border they couaght about 800,000 and that the government states for everyone caught, five get through or 4 million (2005 numbers).

Pat Buchanan, yesterday on a couple of the shows, as he is making the circuit for his new book, stated that there were 6 million last year. He has good documentation. Back to Morris he mentioned that 1 in 7 is from a terror sponsoring country, so figure out how many caught and how many get in.

He then mentions about the ones that get a visa and fly/come in. Morris states that of the visas issue, that over one third stayed after they expired or 3 million.

Then we have the "waiver free countries" or about 28. Just like England being ivaded from all of Europe, which is also invaded, we had over 33,000,000 visitors to America in 2005 and half where from the WFC, who do not need a visa and can come in and stay 90 days. Where are they?

So a number of 40-60 million may not be out of the question. Then remember Clinton almost tripled legal immigration to 2.5 million. Bush cut it to 1.25 and then 1 million two weeks ago so that's 33+ million new Americans. So go figure. No telling, but if history holds true then the 12-15 million number is more like 3 time. I will obtain Buchanans book for more links. Hang in there friend. Who knows what is right, other than it is right to seal the border, stop the drugs, capture the criminals. Too bad Mexico is allowing so many from South america and all over to flood in, but i know it is part of the money thing.

I live in San Antonio Texas, this city is infested with illegal immigrants. Some of our hospitals (University of Texas system) serve illegal immigrants almost exclusively. I have worked and lived all over the United States and this is a growing and significant problem virtually everywhere I have been.

I would have to say 20 million may actually be to low a number actually.

I am married to a Hispanic woman, and my children are half Hispanic. She has a very large family full of mostly wonderful people (all legal). I am not insensitive to the problems of Hispanics by any means, nor do I hate them, nor want them treated inhumanely. Illegal immigration is a very serious problem however, and it will eventually lead to the destruction of all social services and the nation we have enjoyed if it is not controlled. Our government is at fault not the people crossing the borders. It is time our government stopped this by taking away the reasons they come here once and for all (ability to work and social benefits).

Practically all accounts I have heard of cite 12-20 million, It is only an estimate . I live on Long Island really close to Farmingville so here it seems like more than 12 million but its all just an estimation. It could be 10 just as well as it could be 22 million.

The number grows every day by thousands.

There is far more than 20 million. I live in the DC metropolitan area, and there are whole sections of the area that everyone knows is illegal.

Manassas, VA, for example, even has a policy where if your screen door is left open at night, it means for $5 an illegal is welcome to sleep the night. If its closed, it means all the room is filled up. It is ridiculous. There are thousands upon thousands of illegals in the DC area alone. I can only imagine what its like in LA or San Diego.

20 million is being very conservative. I would guess somewhere between 30 and 40 million.

I would say that the number that "THEY" picked out of the air is more reliable than the number "YOU" FEEL that it's more like.
Unless you can show proof of why you feel that way, it's probably to make the problem seem less significant.
And who are you going to have "a acurate disscustion" with, the illegals?

If we had the largest militarized boarder like you state, we wouldn't have to build a wall.

I don't think our border is militarized enough!!!!!!!!!! I know there are consitiutional issues vs. states rights, but I don't understand why we don't make a large base 1500 miles long and 5 miles wide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Call it Fort New Calitexazona.

It actually irks the CRAP out of me that 6 years after 9-11 we are still talking about border security. I would have assumed that would have been taken care of oh, lets see, maybe september 12, 2001!!!!!!!!

I personally counted them and found only 62.

Seriously though, it would be nice to know the source of these
statistics. It would also be nice to be rid of the propaganda, cut the hype and scare tactics and get straight to the facts.
Like what's the real impact ...and not just some theoretical mumbo jumbo or some over-inflated sound bites.

Lasting solutions start with embracing the facts.

20 million is the upper bound estimate. 12 is probably a more reasonable number, but then again these people are off the radar and not accurately counted by statistics, such as the census.
