I read in Europe they give alcoholic beverages to children? Will that kill their brains? How much is ok to give them?

It's usually wine, and they water it down for the kids. A few ounces during special dinners won't hurt them at all, especially if it's watered down. Most kids won't like the taste of beer or mixed drinks- unless the mixed drinks have very little alcohol in them.

While I certainly understand the drawbacks of abusing alcohol, I don't agree. As with anything, moderation is the key. As parents, we should be doing everything we can to educate our children about the dangers of over indulgence, including showing them the proof if necessary. But...and it's a big but...the past ten years or so has shown the benefits that certain types of alcohol can have on our health. As I said, moderation is the key and that has now been proven. It is a stretch, but if you apply your reasoning to other things, then what else should we ban? I am certain you know that people die in car crashes every day, and not all are due to alcohol or impairment. Should we outlaw driving because we know the potential dangers, such as death or pollution even? Or should we ensure that we educate our children and enforce not only the common sense rules but the laws? Your concern is justified, but I believe that your 'solution' would be carrying it to the extreme. My own two sons know full well the dangers of booze(and other 'drugs') and I know full well they've had a few too many at times. They also know..if they are ever caught drinking and driving, they need not call me to bail them out. I will not. They understand that actions have consequences, and I will not pay for their own mistakes.

They give them wine and beer occasionally. Kids aren't doing tequila shooters.

A glass of ale at the Holidays for children 12 and up won't kill them.

watered down wine is what children recieve on special occasions in other countries. But give a child one ounce of distilled liquor and depending on their weight, you could kill them. Alcohol is a respiratory depressant...they can just stop breathing.
