Since my son was a newborn I absolutely loved the smell of his breathe. Even now he is 2 & I love to lay right near him when he is sleeping to feel him breathing & smell his breathe.. Is this totally weird or a normal Mom thing?? Does anyone else understand this? Please no dumb remarks. Thanks

OMG....baby's breath...my daughter's smells like sweet appricots or something. I used to just sit there with my nose at her mouth sometimes. Now when I get the chance, when she's feeling lovey and not trying to take off to get into something; I just take in a big breath when I catch a whiff of it. Oddly solids nor switch from bf to formula has affected her sweet breath. Well it does right after she eats or drinks but if she hasn't had anything for about an hour, its all sweet again.

How often does your daughter see your MIL? If it's not on a regular basis this may be the reason for her "episodes" when she does see her. Try to visit more frequently. She could also be developing separation anxiety. Or, does your MIL wear glasses or have any other distracting "qualities" about her? When you go to visit her leave your daughter with her on a happy note. Encourage your daughter to play and make sure you leave when she's fully awake. That way she doesn't wake and realize Mommy and Daddy are not around. She'll be okay, I promise. I know it hurts to see your little one so worked up but a lot of babies do this and are fine 5-10 minutes later. I experienced this a lot in the day cares I worked at. Once a baby's/child's mother was gone they had a few minutes of tears and then were themselves again. You're going to have to allow your daughter the ability and time to develop a relationship with your MIL so she can get over this "fear" of her.

My daughter just turned 1, and I still love to smell her breath. Nothing weird about it.

It might be weird, but I love my baby's breath, too! When he was really little, before he had solids, it smelled sweet and delicious. I would always just smell it to smell it. Yes, it's weird, but you're not alone ;)

It's not weird at all!!! I loved the smell of my daughter's breath when she was an infant, and she loved mine too. She always slept better when she was close to my face. I love everything about babies!! (well, maybe except for the stinky diapers)

Nothing sweeter than a mama-milk fed baby's breath. I loved it and was so sad when the solids made it all funky;-(
